There are some fantastic photos on this thread taken by some talented people. The one thing that strikes me though is what a wonderfully varied and attractive island we live on ....

Quite right too. People look at me odd when I say I don't really want to do foreign holidays. Perhaps I will once I've completed all I want to see on this wonderful diverse Island, with it's lush, varied landscapes, wonderful historic and modern architecture and fantastic coastline.pablo jaye wrote:The one thing that strikes me though is what a wonderfully varied and attractive island we live on ....
We're lucky we actually live in such a beautiful country, even if we may not always appreciate it.

DL - I agree as I don’t think we do appreciate it all the time. I had a pal over from Brisbane over Xmas who couldn’t get enough of walks in the countryside - all her pals back home were very complimentary about the scenery she was posting on FB.
It did make me appreciate winter scenery more - slate grey skies really give a 2 dimensional effect to landscapes as there is little shadow. That with the silhouettes of trees without leaves creates some stunning pictures.

If I may just interject here...
I'm no David Bailey......so I don't want to be hyper critical.
But, you've managed to catch him at the exact moment he covers his face with a camera......

It's the only bridge over to Skye , mate , put me out of a job [ though to be honest I could have carried on with CalMac as I passed my Lifeboatman's Certificate , I chose to stay at home to be with Jen and our new born son ] - there are three other ways onto it by ferry though , Uig , Kylerhea and Armadale .
Patito - those are some very fine efforts , mate .

Enjoyed a mid-season break in Austria last week - took this whilst supping a Kaiser (beer) from a bar above the clouds.
All quite surreal, really.

Some beauties in this thread!
I finally got around to organising my pics from last 2 summers at work on the boat.
Anchored just off Stromboli, that cloud at the top is from the volcano
Formentera. A tad busy.
Blasting into Olbia (Sardinia) at full chat, doing about 42 knots here from what I recall.
Ibiza old town. Very grainy, I took it from the tender bobbing around in the middle of the harbour dodging ferries so it was impossible to keep the camera (phone) steady.

Re: KUMB Amateur Photography Thread 2019
 whilst I admit these kind of pictures make it look like a total blast, I'll spare you all the pics of me on my knees pulling out another s**t covered wet wipe from from blocked toilet whilst lumping through a force 6, shortly after getting a b********g because the most exclusive restaurant has no tables spare for that evening even though I suggested to book 2 weeks ago, but a moment before one of the main engines stalls as it's taken in air when going up the back of a wave!

One of my mates has a photo that'd be a contender for national geographic, of a queue of 5 hookers all on the passarelle (boat's gangway) waiting to get off onto the dock in St Tropez, with the bouncers handing cash from a huge roll of 500s to each one as they depart. At least 200 members of the public watching on.Wembley1966 wrote:^^^ Got any of the Russian girls on-board?

Re: KUMB Amateur Photography Thread 2019
Finally got out today. Bit too windy, heart wasn't really in it truth be told. Went to Elmly Nature Reserve on Sheppy.
These are the best of the lot, and even they ain't much to write home about.
