Re: Trump
They all seem to be forgetting that military force is an extension of diplomacy, and if used should be done so in the pursuit of diplomatic aims. I'm not convinced they have a diplomatic aim at all, and honestly I think they're all terrified they'll get to the end of Trumps 4 years and wont be able to look back fondly on opening a can of whoopass on another sovereign state.WCpete wrote:With John Bolton's arrival there's no room for advisors who favor diplomacy. Committing any significant military assets beyond a couple demerit missiles in Syria could make the Iraqi disaster look like a Saturday morning Hanna-Barbera cartoon in comparison.

Re: Trump
We’ve opened an “open ended” campaign on Syria with the UK and France. The worst case scenario from this is extremely disturbing. I hope cooler heads prevail.

Re: Trump
After a quick bit of Google research I note that Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics, Raytheon and BAE Systems share prices were at optimal buying price about one month ago.
This after an unusually long period of low profits for all companies. The share prices have been steadily rising since.
These are the four largest arms companies in the world.
I've said before. If you consider the power and influence of the NRA over US politics, just imagine what thier paymasters can do.

Re: Trump
Donald Trump hypocrisy shocker.
The best one was his mentioning sometime in the last year of his military strikes would be kept close to his chest, only for him to announce yesterday of his plans to attack Syrian targets but when.
Operation “attack chemicals factory at about 7:15pm from the South-West” was a rousing success.

Re: Trump
Hmm, it seems to have been a success largely because it was announced in plenty of time that they were going to launch strikes, and as such have given the Russians fair warning to get out of the way - which they seem more than happy to do.
The Russians are certainly not stupid and do not want a war with the west. Is Trump as stupid as he seems?

Re: Trump
This should come as a shock to no one. A 5 minute review of his business practices going back to his beginnings reveals all you need to know about the man's character. A liar, a bully, a cheat. He's never played it straight. Not once. The total chaos of his management style obscures the details. The waste and abuse by his top appointees would not be tolerated at any other time but is glommed over with all the other craziness. The craziness of Pruitt, the EPA Administrator, alone is of the scope that would drag prior administrations for months on end. But coverage of his need for bulletproof cars and bulletproof desks and whizzing around DC with the sirens wailing for no particular reason all gets buried.Harry Hound wrote:So much for his "draining the swamp" claims, he's now very much become another rat in the swamp, but as he's led a "colourful" life, who knows what they've got on him.
As for Trump's m.o. - you can get away with this mayhem in other settings. Local and state officials are not exactly the most fearsome obstacles to someone as resourceful and conniving as Trump. However, he's in the deep end now. Federal criminal prosecution ain't the same as using threats of civil court to bully people you've ripped off. And relying on distortions in the media might get you elected President but it's not enough to undermine the DOJ (at least not without the help of a compliant and co-opted Republican Congress.) Trump can pontificate about how it's only the leadership of the FBI that is part of some fabricated cabal against his magnificent presidency, and that the rank & file are good people. Trump picked a fight with the FBI and will live to regret that. Not because of some elaborate, imagined deep state conspiracy, but because not everyone is as amoral as Trump and that these are professionals who take the rule of law seriously. It's that rank & file who are executing the actions that have Trump and his crew unnerved these days. More lifelong Republicans like Rosenstein and Muller, including some of his own appointees, are the ones who are sifting through Trump's garbage past.

Re: Trump
I've just listened to the Fox and Friends "interview", and all I can say is "Wow!". He's a deranged fantasist with a large helping of paranoia. I'd be surprised if there aren't moves behind the scenes to either limit him to the pomp and showbiz side of the presidency and let the grownups get on with running the country, or even engineer a way to remove him from office.

Just coming to the end of James Comey's audiobook about his time at the FBI, and his dealings with Trump. Well worth a read/listen, fascinating insight into the Clinton Email investigation/Russia etc.
