Re: Brexit referendum result aftermath
Just out of interest when was the last time a third party in England got a decent vote amount, I know UKIP did in 2015 but did actually get many seats. Lib Dems under Clegg with his free uni promises?

The Lib Dems got 6.8m in 2010, comparable to Labour's 8.6m.

Ironically that was the chance for Clegg to force a PR referendum on the Tories in exchange for power, but we all know how that ended...

You think so? Have you seen the state of the next generation of politicians? The absolute ****ing state of them ... this arse should be playing on his playstation and bashing his mates up for making jokes about his mum instead of pissing his childhood away emulating the shower of ***** that are in power now.Rays Rock wrote:We would be much a healthier nation if we scrapped the traditional established parties that have blocked up politics for the past century. It would force the sleepwalking Sheep to think more about their vote rather than sticking their x against whatever red or blue offers up as you quite rightly point out.

Re: Brexit referendum result aftermath
So as we enter the "endgame", what do you reckon the outcome of this week will be?
1) A deal acceptable to both the EU and the UK Parliament
2) A deal acceptable to the EU, but voted down by the UK Parliament
3) A deal voted down by the EU member states, but approved by the UK Parliament
4) No deal
I'm going for (2).

Voted down by Parliament.
May forced to quit.
The Tories turning to Boris in desperation.

Probably this.smuts wrote:Voted down by Parliament.

It's hard to foresee a deal that will be acceptable to parliament - and that isn't just a remain "we want another vote" rejection, that'll be the Moggists too.
After that, Labour will try and push the no confidence vote, but that of course depends on the DUP as the Tory right might want rid of May but wont want a GE.
Most likely will come a Tory leadership challenge. Will they back Boris? JRM? ANOther?

I am going to go that the politicians will forget party colours, GE, and decide what is best for the population / country and vote accordingly.

Well, well. EU and UK negotiators have agreed a text on how to avoid a hard border on the island of Ireland, which will form part of the Withdrawal Agreement. A UK-wide customs arrangement with "deeper" provisions for Northern Ireland on the customs and regulatory side with a review mechanism. Now it has to get past the Cabinet and Parliament.

^ Sounds like a different deal for NI to Great Britain.
If the DUP have got anything about them, then Arlene Foster will be emailing Jeremy Corbyn right now, entitled "no confidence vote".

Cabinet to meet at 2pm tomorrow to consider draft agreement.
Brexiteers already queuing up to flame the deal (without reading it).

Re: Brexit referendum result aftermath
She absolutely has Delbert, and is spot on about Varadkar's shameless rhetoric throughout this process.
And the hypocrisy is staggering, not just on the hard fishing border, but they erected an extremely hard border for the 2001 foot & mouth crisis which somehow, magically didn’t contravene the GFA.
Their border can exist when it suits them and the charade that now it’s impossible to have a border does not deserve respect. Border checks happen all the time on a random & intelligence led level for VAT, excise duty & immigration inc joint PSNI / An Garda Siochana checkpoints.
To pretend they don’t as Varadkar has convinced some more gullible types is a nonsense. Only a shame the UK team incompetently let this escalate into the massive issue it is not.
Too late now though, May's team bungled it big-time and parliament now can't back her deal.

Yep.Clacton-ammer wrote:I am going to go that the politicians will forget party colours, GE, and decide what is best for the population / country and vote accordingly.
Might take a couple of attempts but there's 48% who were petrified of no deal and plenty among the 52% who always figured that a deal would be done.
The number of Japanese soldiers on both sides isn't likely to be too great when they face their constituents..
Tick tock.
The EU, particularly since the advent of the euro, is one long tale of can-kicking, fudging, last minute deals.

Re: Brexit referendum result aftermath
In the 2015 GE, if the 7 largest minority parties are added together it totals 9.45 million votes.fmgod wrote:Just out of interest when was the last time a third party in England got a decent vote amount, I know UKIP did in 2015 but did actually get many seats. This is significant as it is approximately the same number of votes as Labour gained.
Yet the combined might of all of those 7 minority party votes equates to just 86 Seats in the Commons. Compare that to Labours 232 Seats gained with 104,004 less votes than the 7 combined.
The largest discrepancy of those minority parties is the SNP gaining 56 seats from 1.45 million votes, yet UKIP gaining just 1 seat as the 3rd largest party at 3.88 million votes and the Greens also only gaining 1 seat with just about the same number of votes as SNP at 1.15 million votes.
Talk about Gerrymandering.
