West Ham Utd 2-1 Hull City (26/03/14)
Too depressed to think any more about today so let's move on to the next one. I think Tomka deserves a rest now and its time to get Winston back in. Armero surely deserves a go too now as it's time to see what he's like. Wide midfield might be the best bet. Several other changes could be made after today but it's probably best to get a sense of perspective now and focus on games like this which we really can win.

Re: West Ham United v Hull: match thread
Set up to not concede and hopefully nick 1 off a Carroll flick on, if his neck can take more headers !!
I expect a crap dire game and it will rain

Yeah, BFS will probably look to quell the threat of Jelavic and Long first although it would be good to see us force them into worrying about us. If we can play with a bit more tempo and belief than today we should be ok.

-------------------------- Adrian ------------------------
Demel -------- Reid ------- Collins --------- Armero
---------------- Diame ------ Noble ------------------
Vaz Te --------------- Nolan --------------- Downing
------------------------- Carroll -------------------------
If Vaz Te is not fit then give Joey Cole another crack and put Downing on the right.
When Carroll was injured Jarvis was pinging loads of balls into the box, since his been back he can't seem to get one right
Must win, must attack

For me Diame has to play CM, he is so wasted / shocking on the wing. much rather him in the middle and tbh even though he does waste it a lot with his shots at least he can hold onto the ball better than taylor. against hull bring back the combo of noble and diame

Adrian
Demel Reid Collins Armero
Noble
Jarvis Nocerino Downing
Cole Carroll
I know i'm dreaming, but I wish. I'd love to see us play with something other than direct balls or crosses as our only predictable form of attack. I'd love some intricate play, like West Ham are capable of.

No chance. We will set up not to lose and it will be a borefest. We might nick it but majority of us will go home bored to tears

Jarvis couldn't have put in a more woeful 'performance' earlier, fully expect him to be dropped, Reid for Tomkins, Armero for Macca

Just play Matt Taylor on his own against 11 Hull players
Would keep the majority of posters on this board happy

One eye on Hull ??
Like everyone yesterday, no doubt, I was really disappointed with the performance we gave.
It appeared to me that we lacked energy, urgency and strength against a team who were paler shade to those we battled last year in league and cup.
Right across the midfield, I saw our players strolling for the large part, happy to allow manure to win 2nd balls and watch them break then barely get out of 3rd gear in pursuit.
To say the performance was uninspiring would be an understatement.
I am a bfs supporter, defended us all season but yesterday it dawned upon me sadly that maybe, just maybe bfs has his focus on Hull in midweek??
We know we haven't got the squad to go hammer and tongs twice in a week and whilst we would have wanted to have a go at them, bfs cant afford fatigue to hinder a line-up in a more winnable game in the week.
If we beat Hull, then results v Stoke and Manure are forgiven in my eyes.
I fear he put out the side he did, to make it appear that he had good intentions as had he rested Noble, Downing and Nolan etc, he would have been open to criticism from us.
To me it simply emphasises just how fragile we are.
In a more successful season it would matter not but in one such as this where we have work to do still, to survive, we have to hedge our bets to give ourselves the best chance of getting points.
It's horrible but alas it is where we are right now.

I wish my boss thought I couldn't be expected to work twice in the same week.

Re: West Ham United v Hull: match thread
I agree with the logic Adam, but it stems from my one bugbear about Allardyce. He has worked out the games he thinks he can win at the start of the season and doesn't seem to change his approach to the team the other side can put out.
Everton away = a point is a good result. Completely ignored their injury crisis and that they couldn't score in a brothel until they played us.
Yesterday was the same. That was a Man Utd team asking to be roughed up and given a game, but in Sam‘s head it was clearly a one pointer.
He'll have Hull down as a three pointer, but they are playing well and could easily turn us over.
I support Sam, but he needs to be more flexible in his approach and give our players some more freedom on the pitch.
I have a bad feeling we'll come unstuck in this one.

Quite right. God knows what would happen if they were asked to play on Christmas day and Boxing day as they used to not that many years ago.ManInTheIronsMask. wrote:I wish my boss thought I couldn't be expected to work twice in the same week.

Re: West Ham United v Hull: match thread
Against Hull I also I would see a change of form, the good old 4-4-2 with external to push wing attacks and put balls into the box for the head of Carroll. And I hope Ried in the first minute
