It was crying out for Taylor to be subbed, and Diame or Cole to play inside with Noble. On the support side for Diame, and I am not usually his biggest fan, it was his driving run that got us the pen.Brian Fantana wrote:Good point Tts but could sam of not kept Diame on the pitch and brought Joe on for someone else?

Christ, it's getting a bit testy on here.
I call it the Allardyce effect.

Re: West Ham United v Hull: match thread
Has anyone commented on Nolan kicking the ball into the east stand after the second goal yesterday?
Knowing what we know now about players attitude towards fans yesterday. ..did the club captain fire the ball AT the fans? If so far worse than cupping ears or swearing at them IMO

Re: West Ham United v Hull: match thread
And he brings him on as an outside winger instead of playing to his strenght's to work more centrally either as a AM or cutting inside and linking up from the left, clearly not doing him any favours as he is not 20 years old any longer. Just like he sent the kids to the slaughters at Forest, playing wingers on their wrong foot while our main plan of attacking consists of getting crosses in, and I could go on. Tactically inept, nothing less.Turns to Stone wrote:
Let's not forget though. Diame wasn't broght off for a centre-back or a defensive midfielder. Allardyce brought Joe Cole on who's arguably the most creative player we have at the club. Maybe he was hoping Cole would make something happen that Diame was struggling to do?
Subbing Taylor pulling Diame inside, Downing/Vaz/Jarvis on the right with Cole on the left should've been the move we were looking to make yesterday if he were to play Joe at all.

Re: West Ham United v Hull: match thread
The fact that there were boo's after a home win says it all imo. West Ham ain't about results, and it just goes to show that the threshold for BFS' destructive football have been met a long long time ago, and it won't get any better.
His days are numbered and it's not a moment too soon.
"we were magnificent" and sticks his ears out. Quite.... arrogant *****
Saying that, I thought we got robbed at their patch earlier in the season with a dodgy penalty and all that, guess it was fair we got the rub of the green this time round. However had Diame been called for handball and no sending off, we would have struggled to get anything I reckon. Abject performance with minimal intent, especially vs 10 men is what drives people to booing.

Re: West Ham United v Hull: match thread
it was painful to watch but we got the right result.
Not ideal but job done IMHO.
I think the match just highlighted the weakness of our squad in general.
For me unfortunately a lot of players had an off day all at once. I didn't think taylor or carroll had the best of games. I know diame won us a penalty but his inability to do anything meaningful with the ball apart from run towards his own team mates and then pass them the ball when he is a yard from them is more than frustrating.
First half i thought downing was killing it down the right but this was snuffed out by bruce's tactics in the second half.
I just hope everyone is back on song for the Sunderland match COYI

Re: West Ham United v Hull: match thread
Some are saying a poor perfomance, but waht can you expect from this squad - and Sam goes on about recovery times...
But we have an Italian intrenational sitting on the bench, watching the 32 year old Taylor play for the second time in a few days.
I get playing Taylor against Man U, when you expect defensive duties to top the agenda - but against midtable opponents at home? And when he has just played a draining 90 minutes....
And then, when theyre down to 10 men and we have a lead, surely ball rentetion and spreading the play would be the way to go. a second passing player in cnetremidfield, alongside Noble could have madea huge difference.
Maybe it is Sam's mentality that has the players nervous at home, cos he over-focuses on the defensive. And he didnt seem to adapt to their red card at all.

When Nocerino started he done nothing of note. He had his chance to cement a starting position and he blew it.

Just read that McGregor is still in hospital with a damaged kidney and will miss the rest of the season.
Hope he recovers quickly.

He started the game and played the whole 90 (I think) against Stoke. Don't worry, I hardly noticed him either.Kansas City Milkman wrote:Blimey, its not really been much of a chance? - just a few minutes here & there

Seconded, hopefully just bruising and not ruptured. But I guess may be ruptured if they are talking about missing the rest of the season.MB wrote:Just read that McGregor is still in hospital with a damaged kidney and will miss the rest of the season.

If he had gone for the ball he might not have been so badly injured, he led with his back rather than his hands or feet.

That's not quite the full picture though is it.upton o'good wrote: I get playing Taylor against Man U, when you expect defensive duties to top the agenda - but against midtable opponents at home? And when he has just played a draining 90 minutes....
Yes mid-table opposition, yes at home but the most important point was the importance of the result on league standing.
Had Hull won that they'd be on 36 points and safe. We'd be on 31 and right back in the sh*t.
As it stands we've now above Hull, and a win and draw from safety with 7 to go and with Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Man City amongst that 7 losing that game was not an option.

Hmmm... Mark Noble seems to suggest otherwise.upton o'good wrote:Maybe it is Sam's mentality that has the players nervous at home, cos he over-focuses on the defensive. And he didnt seem to adapt to their red card at all.

But what the f*ck does he know he's only professional with 10 years experience and a couple of hundred games to draw his conclusions from.Sloop John B wrote: Hmmm... Mark Noble seems to suggest otherwise.
