Does anyone else think Big Sam might rest a few as he sees the Arsenal game as more winnable?

Agree with this. I think they probably have the ability to battle Carroll aerially. However, the pace of Valencia would unsettle them IMO. That being said I expect us to line up as per Leicester.Clucking Bell wrote:I'd like to see us start with Sahko and Valencia as they can pull Terry and Cahill all over the place.
For me I think we have given ourselves a cushion by our recent victories and should really have a go at them with pace.

This week is a real test for Sam , it must be so tempting to revert to a formation and style that was fruitful against the rent boys at their place last season but we are different and have different players now so that would not work for us , I have not seen the stats but possession this season must be far higher and that's key in the Chelsea game for the Arse game we have to bully the lightweights from the offFrankies Boots wrote:Does anyone else think Big Sam might rest a few as he sees the Arsenal game as more winnable?

Agreed. That's how you win these games. No need to get the crowd up for it, they will becockney farmer wrote: []

A repeat of this would be the best Christmas present I could hope for.BondsoBob wrote:Boxing day 1972. Half time Rent Boys 2 Mighty Hammers 0. Full time Rent Boys 2 Mighty Hammers 4 !
What a day ! Just remembering how things used to be !
Reality says a point would be very good, anything else is a Brucie bonus.
Re: Chelsea v West Ham United: Match Thread
More 19Th century football for this one, and a well earned point would be fine and keep the good form going into the Arsenal game. For those travelling no district line trains to fulham broadway !!

Chelsea are away at Southampton and Tottenham following us so they'll no doubt have to juggle their squad also. The way we are playing anything could happen

If we can keep Hazard and Da Costa in shackles , then the score will be...
Chelsea 1 West Ham United 2
Chelsea 1 West Ham United 2

Ref for this is Michael Oliver. Usually a good ref imo but does tend to favour the bigger sides in gamesPhilosophical Dan wrote:Any idea who's reffing this game? Nasty feeling that they'll be deciding this result.

One good thing is, this lot do let you play. What does worry me, is they have great pace in their team, with runners on and off the ball and we will have to match that and for this reason alone, I would stick Enner Valencia in for this one, but can't decide whether I would bench Andy or Sakho. Cases for their inclusion can be made for either

Shame we can't take the shed anymore, that was always a highlight of my youth despite the result.
Could not agree more - always the best away day of any season.

I could see a red card for our big man in this game as those two will wind him up.RyanWHUFC wrote:Big 6 pointer this one, title potentially hinges on it. Fancy us to nick a draw and would be ecstatic with that.
Big Andy to bash Terry and Cahill up sounds just the ticket to me.
They will know his threat on the deck and in the air.

Cheers boss. Don't mind Oliver, but I have sensed the old big club bias when I've seen him before. Hardly unique in that respect, of course.whufcmarc wrote:Ref for this is Michael Oliver. Usually a good ref imo but does tend to favour the bigger sides in games

That was quick off the mark, Dyer! Have not recovered from Leicester yet.
Any result will do. Just ask for a decent performance on Boxing Day. Then bring on the Gooners for a great end to a brilliant year.

Re: Chelsea v West Ham United: Match Thread
This game is like when you were a kid and you took on one of the best fighters in the school.
You all know deep down you are going to lose but you need to make sure the other kid knows he
was in a fight. You need to get that one punch in that hurts him or gives him a bloody nose. It’s about him thinking twice before he takes you on again, it’s about respect.
Many of you think Sam is ahead of schedule on a journey that is going to take us to the very top.
If this is true then on Boxing day we need to be the young stag that is challenging the dominant male for his harem of trophies. We may not take them this year but they will know, it’s just a matter of time before we will.
