doesn't matter how badly they have played in their last few games (and they have) - we still won't beat them. full strength team or not, this has got 2-0 everton written all over it.

I think we need to rest a few players for this one but we can still put out a strong team. I'd go for the following ;
Adrian
Jenkinson
Reid
Collins
Demel
Noble
Almafitano
Song
Jarvis
Valencia
Cole
Bench - Downing, Cresswell, Jussi, Carroll, Nolan, Burke, Kouyate.

Adrian (in the form of his WHU career; we play Jussi and we'll lose)
Jenkinson
Collins
Tomkins
O'Brien
(Cresswell is approaching burn out
Ginge & Tomkins are a decent duo and Reid's not in good form)
Noble as DM shield
Downing
Nolan
Amalfitano
Jarvis
(The 'wingers' can soak up pressure defensively
The others can rotate in offering support to the striker)
Carroll
(I'd be tempted to rest Carroll, but I can't see that as a likely option for Sam).
Everton's recent run of form has been terrible.
I think that, without our top scorer and/or Song/Kouyate, a draw is the best we can dream of.

Hang on a second... Why all the negativity? sure in the league we get zilch from this mob, but this is the cup, all bets are off. Also, interesting little stat here "The Hammers have been enjoying a positive season and they have won their last four FA Cup meetings with Everton."

Yes, The players are knackered after playing 3 matches in 7 days. They need a break and to be fresh by the time we meet Swansea away, in what is the more important game. If we had a bigger squad, things would be different, but they're notbrownout wrote:Can anyone provide a good reason for not playing our strongest available eleven because I can't see one?

Can you explain why the Swansea game is more important?.............We're not threatened with relegation & I think its unlikely that we will win the league.Puff Daddy wrote:

But the Cup.........beat Everton, a bit of luck in the draw for the next round & who knows?

We could have played a few that hadn't had much game time against West Brom; giving them a chance to impressPuff Daddy wrote:

Demel, O'Brien, Poyet, Noble, Nolan, Cole, Jarvis, Vaz Te and even Zarate haven't had much recent action
Tomkins didn't play yesterday, Amalfitano only an hour, Valencia should be fresh
We do have a squad to have meant a strong starting XI against Everton but we don't seem to have given the rest to the right players at the tight time if come Tuesday night we put out a second rate team

Re: Everton vs West Ham Utd (F ACup 3rd Rd): match thread
Everton is our biggest game of the season, will determine whether we have a good 2nd half or we slip to mid table obscurity.
Not a bad thing after last year, but the ridiculous assumption we will finish top 6 is wearing a bit thin now.

For once we are not staring relegation in the face, so the FA Cup is a chance to win something

Re: Everton vs West Ham Utd (F ACup 3rd Rd): match thread
Well, I guess it is how you look at it, but in my opinion, it is more important we get back to winning ways in the league as soon as possible and to regain our Premiership form to prevent our season spiralling backwards, which I think it could so easily do, if we do not recover the form that took us to 4th just before Christmas. Don't get me wrong, as I have said previously, I would love us to give this a real crack but having re-thought things, I think we will have to write this off again for one more year, or until we have a squad big enough to fight on 3 fronts.brownout wrote:Yes, The players are knackered after playing 3 matches in 7 days. Same every year with you Puff, you never want us to progress in the cup.
How about you rest yourself from cup related topics...

A couple of them - Cresswell and Downing - are starting to look a little fatigued IMO.
Tomkins for Reid is no big deal. Carroll has had three very poor games on the spin.
