dangerous brothers have to start. carroll coming on to break down the gate if need be.
Re: Southampton v West Ham United: Match Thread
There is no way he will play the same team, what with the West Brom game on Saturday which he will see as more important in my opinion. Don't be surprised if a few fringe players start on Wednesday a la Carlton Cole and Matt Jarvis.

Kouyaté took a couple of knocks, but Tomkins' gammy hammys worry me even more than his broken bugle. Nolan might struggle to recover in time, too. Hope Carroll can make the bench, so we can go long late in the game.
1-1 Carroll.
1-1 Carroll.

The local game for me. Need to make amends for the horrific display we offered up at the Boleyn Ground.
I'd take a draw right now but ideally, we need a win.

I really think we need to look ahead to Saturday now. For me I'd play Carroll and Cole, give Jarvis a game and save Sakho and Valencia for West Brom. We just cannot afford any more injuries, this week will define our season

Definite game for Carroll. Real shame that we haven't got Collins or Reid available.
The game at our place was a funny one, where the lesser physicality of our players told eventually, but we could easily have been two up after 40 minutes.
O'Brien, Vaz Te, Carlton, Zarate, Morrison, Diame all made it onto the pitch that day for us, so we're basically a different team in many respects..
Suspect we'll target their left back - where Bertrand is banned, and the reserve has a concussion injury.

I want to beat these ****ers. I'd play the strongest possible team I could, with Carroll in it if available, so he can throw their central defenders around like rag dolls.
I'd actually rather we won with ugly long ball stylings than by playing football, just because it would piss them off even more. I want at least a couple of saints fans on this site afterwards telling us how we're an awful team who play awful football, just so we can all have a laugh at their expense.

Re: Southampton v West Ham United: Match Thread
Saturday's game at the Hawthorns is far more important than this - after the way the weekend's results went, a path to the cup final is looking more achievable than us getting into Europe.
After last night's exertions I think Allardyce would be right to leave a few of the big guns on the bench for this, and if we're still in it midway through the second half then maybe give them a few minutes towards the end.
Southampton seem to win a lot of games by a single goal so it'll probably be tight one way or another. Not seeing a win, but a draw seems a reasonable bet.

Will be very happy with a point. Start Jarvis and Cole if it helps rest some for Saturday.

Don't mean to be pedantic, but don't you mean "satisfied?"ShanghaiHammer wrote:Will be very happy with a point. Start Jarvis and Cole if it helps rest some for Saturday.
I can't understand people being "very happy" with a draw, as a draw usually means we could have won. Was anyone "very happy" with the point yesterday? Sure as hell I wasn't. And wouldn't have been before the game
Unless we were playing a side so superior to us that we were expecting a tremendous battering... we should always have at least a chance of winning.
I know that as West Ham fans we are almost programmed to expect the worst, but a little optimism does tend to make one a rather more pleasant person to know!

Does anyone knows how many tickets we've sold for this game?

Re: Southampton v West Ham United: Match Thread
shame they have probably the most competant and drilled defence in the league. koeman has them shrugging off direct play with ease. seen them opened up by pace a few times though.fjthegrey wrote:I'd actually rather we won with ugly long ball stylings than by playing football, just because it would piss them off even more.
