Yes Zarate can be frustrating but he offers that creativity, ball skill and finishing that we lacked so often last season
His is in my best 11

IMO Slav will get the best out of Zarate not take the p**s out of him like Sam. As far as I can recall Oxford signed a two year deal until he's eighteen so watch the vultures swoop then. I doubt we'll be able to keep him as long as we had Rio but there you go!!! The way of the world I'm afraid as the so-called big 5 try to sign everybody. And hilariously one won't make the champions League anyway!

Shame Oxford never got credited with the goal, it was going in anyway but seems it's gone down as an OG from their defender (Toffo?).
Payet looked fantastic again. We were really good in the second half. Quite lethargic in the first, not calling out any names but I think a certain player really needs to hang his boots up now, or at least with us. A simple track back to claim the ball infront of our fans couldn't even be done and he ended up running out of steam and falling over to comedy-esque laughter, must of been embarrassing for the bloke.
9 changes in the second half I counted. We really punished them in the last 20/25 mins. Some great passing play. Just need a clinical striker now to get on the end of these chances being created.

We need to get him tied down to a long deal.
I said this way back when in the transfer thread that Reece is really highly regarded, I have a bit of itk info on this that a new contract was being drawn up whether he has signed it on the down low or not I don't know. He is defo being thought of as part of the first team this year.

Re: Norwich City v West Ham United: Match Thread
Not saying he had a bad game at all but....
when we were pinging the ball around in the second half, I have to say Kouyate looked the clumsiest out of all the midfielders.
I liked the way we were pressing high up the pitch - something we'd also have been doing if we'd have got Bielsa or Howe as manager. Even the defensive midfielders were quite high up the pitch. I can also see that we may concede a few this season by being hit on the counter. I really did enjoy watching it though and it was nice seeing us systematically pick their defence apart - something we couldn't do last season. I'm hoping we get one more creative type in that's in the same league as Payet, aswell as a striker.

For those that didn't see the game, you won't get much there of what you've been reading about unfortunately.Wembley1966 wrote:6 minutes of highlights:

Ok, just watched the highlights video. Oxford didn't get a touch on it at all.
Agree with mumbles, very one-sided. Didn't show much of our attacking play in the second half.

Re: Norwich City v West Ham United: Match Thread
I only caught the last 30 minutes or so on a stream but as with the Charlton game Saturday there is more and more evidence of a decent passing team with Payet pulling the strings in the final third.
On the plus side for Zarate, he has had a fair bit of game time and his fitness, hopefully, shouldn't be an issue. He has great control and ability on the ball, and his movement off it seems good too, he's frequently available to receive it. If he can improve the decision making which often frustrates, then he is worth persevering with, if not he'll only play a minor role should he stay with us
Oxford has some future doesn't he ? The first Lusitans game i thought he looked a little shaky at times in midfield, but grew in confidence when he dropped back into defence. Since then he has looked really accomplished in a midfield role. 16 years old eh ? I wouldn't be at all surprised if he had first team opportunities this season

Thoroughly enjoyed the game...and the kids loved it! Always nice to see your team win at the very first game you attend as a child, but felt I had to remind them that it isn't always like that.
Second half of the second half we looked pretty good...nice passing and movement and Payet is some player.

I watched it on Hungarian tv and was amazed how deep Maiga was when collecting the ball and how much defending he did, he was often seen collecting rhe ball in the right back berth and also back defending that position. Perhaps Bilic sees him more of a ball carrier?
He did well i thought.

Thought we clicked a bit when all the changes were made last night.
Hopefully a good sign of things to come...
IMO a fox in the box player like Destro would thrive with Payet?

Re: Norwich City v West Ham United: Match Thread
Zarate started this pre-season a dumpy little frustrating f*ckwit.
He's getting a bit sharper, a bit quicker, a bit fitter with each game.
With this, his competitive sharpness and thought of mind will also return and it is a very fine line when it comes to intricate decision making with a player of his ilk.
When you're lacking sharpness as a player like him, you feel crowded and try to do to much.
Whereas when you're fit, confident, the space just opens up and you make decisions far easier.
Time to give the guy the leeway we'd give him if he had only just joined from a foreign club a couple of weeks back.

Spot on. The frustration he must've felt from last season (whoevers fault that was) would be affecting his decision making ability. The more game time he gets and the more confidence he feels from the manager the more he will start to play naturally without forcing everything to try to make an impression.rare as rockinghorse shat wrote:Zarate started this pre-season a dumpy little frustrating f*ckwit.

Far better second half, agree one player needs to call it a day, we should help him to find a club! we do need a real striker that will take every chance that comes up both on the floor or in the air.
