ELQ3: Astra Giurgiu 2-1 West Ham Utd (06/08/15)
Up and at them lads. No fear, nothing to lose. Ball on the floor, play for the colours.
(This is as motivational as I get)
Re: FC Astra Giurglu v West Ham United: Match Thread
FC Astra drew 2-2 at the weekend with Viitorul so hopefully fatigue will set in for them.
I can see us winning this comfortably actually. 2-0.

Re: FC Astra Giurglu v West Ham United: Match Thread
Posted this in the previous match thread but better suited here...
Sakho playing the whole game today along with being our only quality striker left at the moment I can see being left out on Thursday or maybe on the bench just in case
Not sure how bad the Reid and Obiang injuries were but both are back in training tomorrow so wonder and not in our current Europa squad so wonder if may feature against Arsenal
Lanzini has been added to the Europa league squad by the looks of it and we know Tomkins and Collins are suspended with Jenkinson not being able to on Sunday but can on Thursday.
There will be some players who have higher fitness levels so should be able to play in both games.
So we might be in a position to play....
Thursday (Payet & Sakho on bench in case)
----------------------- Adrian ----------------------
Jenkinson------ Henry --- Ogbonna ------- Cresswell
------------------------ Poyet -------------------------
----------- Jarvis------ Nolan ----- Kayoute -----
----------------------- Lanzini---------------------
------------------------ Zarate--------------------
Sunday
------------------------ Adrian ----------------------
Burke------- Tomkins ---- Reid ------- Cresswell
------------------------ Noble -------------------------
--------- Oxford ---- Kayoute----- Obiang---------
----------------------- Payet------------------
----------------------- Sakho-----------------------
That's potentially only Adrian, Cresswell and Kayoute needed to play both games but a decent side out in both games
Appreciate some don't think Oxford should play against Arsenal but other than that swap him and Poyet round as don't think there is anyone else based on performances
It's interesting as I think Oxford or potentially Poyet deserve a chance based on what they have shown so far.... What are our alternatives stick Collins at the back and Tomkins in midfield, JOB or Amalfitano? Based on what I've seen so far then Oxford or Poyet all the way.

Astra rested 3/4 of their first team at the weekend. Bilic has already said that the first team wont be playing in Romania.
We will go down by 2 goals.

Our entire game plan A should revolve around scoring first and scoring that goal early, preferably.
Then, our entire game plan B should revolve around scoring a second.
If accomplished, then they're sitting ducks.

No chance we will playing our only fit decent striker 3 days before the season opener. Sakho will be on the bench at best along with Payet, Cresswell, etc etc. And for the people suggesting we play 16yr old Oxford on Sunday in midfield against Arsenal...are you for real? He will get destroyed.

Who should play in midfield instead of Oxford or Poyet against Arsenal then?
Based on current ability and performances I don't see anyone else doing better...
Tomkins in midfield, JOB, Nolan, or Amalfitano seems to be the other options...

COMON YOUR IRONS. I am seriously enjoying these Thursday fixtures under the lights, and I do not want them to stop now.
I know we have le'arse on the Sunday, but screw it, go all out, field 8 first teamers, and rest youngsters, and let's hope we can finish with 11 on the pitch, and our name in the hat for Fridays draw.

Cant see Sakho playing in this the fact he played a full 90 yesterday.
I reckon we will go with Maiga & Lee upfront

Although I have been impressed with Oxford and Poyet, I think this just shows how weak our options are in midfield. Granted, we have Obiang to come in but he's untested in the Prem and, even with him, that is the basic minimum. We need to get Song in at the very least imo.MD_HM wrote:Who should play in midfield instead of Oxford or Poyet against Arsenal then?

Does anyone know if you can get BT sport here in Italy? You see the "Irish" pubs advertising Sky sports but not BT...
