Re: Arsenal v West Ham United: Match Thread
It's little things.....like the team being told that when Arsenal are in possession they were to apply pressure so that the possession was moved to certain (less effective) Arsenal players.
Re: Arsenal v West Ham United: Match Thread
He's letting the public into little things like that that normally stay in the dressing room but whatever, it's smart to do as if you really do your homework, that type of tactic can really influence the way of a game so long as the players are singing from the same song sheet and are really switched on mentally, which they 100% were yesterday..bubbles1966 wrote:It's little things.....like the team being told that when Arsenal are in possession they were to apply pressure so that the possession was moved to certain (less effective) Arsenal players.

Just spotted this....for those who want to watch the whole thing. BTW, I didn't, I spent most of the game shivering behind the sofa waiting for the avalanche.

Re: Arsenal v West Ham United: Match Thread
So... made the trip back from Dubai and obvioulsy had an amazing day out... but now watched the full game again with a clear head and feel that I'm ready to comment...
Our back four and Adrian were a lot better than I thought on the day. Didn't do anything to stand out but their positioning was spot on. Played like a solid unit and made it very hard for a clever Arsenal team to get in behind them. 1 shot on target against in the 1st half is a prime example.
Noble was superb. Looks class with Kouyate and Payet around him and anyone on here or at home next week who thinks he only plays due to being a west ham fan is quite simply an idiot in terms of football kowladge/experience.
Kouyate is all running. Has strength, pace, ability and attitude... can see him turning into a very simular figure to us as Yaya is for City. We will miss him a lot if he is out.
Zarate and Sakho worked hard, Zarate needs to learn a lot from Payet about laying it off and holding it up but he looked keen and trim.
Oxford did well. Not the right time to jump through hoops with him and pile on the pressure but he was solid and composed. Lovely to see a lad from the youth do so well but we need to keep it in perspective.
Payet is absolutely world class. Fact! Hammer of the year, team of the season... I think he will get the lot...! I have mates who are involved at Marseille so came on here and spoke about him when we signed him and said just how good he is... they were devastated that we were able to sign him and he will do that every week!!!
We have a Payet'er on our hands here!!!

A Norwegian newspaper wrote a report from the game:

The club broke out of Europa League for Romanian Astra, but the Premier League opening against Arsenal appeared West Ham as a top trimmed Porsche.
- It was every bit as "coconut" one could hope and faith.

Zarate in my opinion had a great game. That turn he made that led to the goal completely sold the Arsenal defender. A well taken goal, but as you say Cech could have probably done better. But if you don't ask, you don't get.the pink palermo wrote: He certainly created his own good fortune for that goal by winning the ball back in a dangerous area and having a pop at goal .
Personally I believe the keeper should have done better for it but you cannot fault Zarate for the keepers errors .
Same starting XI for Leicester please.

Re: Arsenal v West Ham United: Match Thread
I think he shaped like he was going to hit to Cech's left, but changed his mind at the last moment (which is why he slightly mis-hit it), which left Cech starting to push off his right foot, and it's impossible for a keeper to suddenly change direction in those circumstances, and he was stranded. It always looks like a keeper's 'mistake' when that happens, but was just fast thinking and good execution by Zarate. Credit where it's due.LincolnshireHammer wrote:

You've mistaken the meaning of the punching the air movement paul.tall paul wrote:Anyone notice the kid in the arsenal blue away shirt behind the goal who jumped up and punched the air when zarates shot went in, very odd
You know those people who jump up and shout and abuse immediately as the opposition score.
Well, he's one of them. It was abuse that sort of looked like celebration.
Re: Arsenal v West Ham United: Match Thread
Even already I've noticed a marked improvement in the atmosphere at games - europa, friendlies and Sunday..
Like it or not, it must have something to do with the change in manager and an improved outlook amongst the fans.

What a great day out..some of the Finnish Irons were sitting above the away end with Arsenal fans, the only tickets we could get in and very expensive. After the match away end was leaving the premises so we decided to show crossed hammers from up from the sky and we got a big support from downstairs from you great fans. Good fun. Well, we got escorted out by the security but luckily that was after the game, not before..and Drayton Park..life long memories once again..

Blinding start West Ham! Fantastic team effort, absolutely tore up the script at the arsenal.
Committed resolute defence , little bit midfield trickery , good movement off the ball and at last,
opportunity for the yoot dem \○/
There was once a dream that was the West Ham way...
Thanks to all the players and management for that display , fantastic stuff.
My compliments also to those attended and took the party to the emirates. Different class.
For anyone that was there, do you recon arsenal forgot they were in a derby?
Can only see so much on telly .
Finally, never mind souness, double biased bellsniff

Re: Arsenal v West Ham United: Match Thread
I'm still buzzing. What a performance! So proud to be a hammer. Everyone put a proper and intelligent shift in and did it for the team! Reminded me of Greece in 2004-the team shifted as one, always seemed to be 2 players around the ball, pressing, winni9ng the ball and making the best of our chances. I loved hearing Ole, Ole and seeing us ping it about, about 8 one touch passes in a triangle in our own half.
I was miffed after losing to the Stars of George in Romania but it now seems it was ages ago. COYI
Romford-What were you about to say about Herbert Chapman before you were cut off?

Quinn and Souness were waxing lyrical about Reece Oxford.
