COC2: Leicester City 2-1 West Ham Utd (22/09/15)

Post by prophet:marginal »

I don't suppose too many saw this as the top of the table clash it has proved to be, when the draw was first made!

Here's the team I would suggest; a decent blend of youth and experience. Lots will probably turn on how Ranieiri views the competition, but I have a hunch that one or two of our league warriors need a match off to recharge batteries.

Randolph

Tomkins
Collins
Oxford
Hendrie
[although I can see Jenkinson staying at RB and Tomkins partnering Ginge]

Obiang
Cullen

Lanzini
Zarate
Moses

Carroll

[Carroll is perhaps not going to last a full 90, but the adrenaline that comes with a first start for 7 months ought to see him through for at least 3/4 of the game]

Four in a row? Might not be a plan, eh, Slav? But we can always dream...

Check - apparently both Antonio and The Croatian Man O'war are cup-tied.

I'd forgotten Samuelsen. Would certainly involve him, even if I didn't hand him a start.

With my hard hat on I've never worried about the League Cup, or whatever it's been called since it's birth. No clubs seem to regard it as anything more than nuisance value until maybe the semis. Even mid table championship sides send out near reserve teams. So I've never been over gutted when we've gone out of the bloody thing. Apart from when Redknapp made us a bloody laughing stock by playing Omoyinmi that is. That bloody still rankles with me.

That said it's a trophy at the end of the day and I want us to win trophies. And this season we have depth in the squad we've never seen before. S B has got to keep the fringe players motivated and match fit so how about this little lot.

Randolph; O'Brien, Henry (if fit), Collins, Hendrie;

Amalfitano, Oxford, Cullen, Samuelson; Zarate; Carroll

And a place for Song if he's fit.

Can't see us playing Jenks in two days time if he went off with cramp. Don't think we will play Tomkins or Reid either unless we absolutely have to. Same for Cresswell actually.

The back four put an epic shift in yesterday and will no doubt need recovery time.

Randolph deserves a start. Not sure where the likes of O'Brien Hendrie Henry and Burke are in terms of fitness but if all are fit they may well be considered in the back four. Collins will no doubt start and it seems sensible to give Oxford a go there alongside him in his natural position. Although we could also use Oxford in the holding role again, either way, I am not sure we will wan't to risk Ogbonna so options might be limited.

Noble and Obiang both looked very leggy towards the end of the City game (understandably) but I am not sure we will want to risk Kouyate coming back and Song is obviously not ready either so they might have to play again.

Cullen and Page will no doubt be involved. Not sure on Zarate's fitness but he and Samualson will now doubt be involved too. Shame about Antonio and Jelavic as it would have been an ideal run out for them.

Good chance for Carroll to get 30-45 under his belt too.

Isn't Burke still on loan at Bradford?

If not, sure, he starts for me - alongside Ginge.

Both sides will surely rest half their starting elevens yesterday so they can focus on next weekend. Both us and them need to make hay in the league while the sun shines.

Their side in the last round which put 4 past Bury was totally different...

32 Schwarzer
29 Benalouane
18 Moore
27 Wasilewski
28 Fuchs
36 Dodoo
33 Inler
07 Hammond
14 Kanté
23 Ulloa
19 Kramaric

And the side that played Bournmouth a few days before that game (which is pretty much the same side that played Stoke yesterday too)...

01 Schmeichel
02 de Laet
06 Huth
05 Morgan
15 Schlupp
10 King
26 Mahrez
04 Drinkwater
14 Kanté
11 Albrighton
09 Vardy

Fair to say they will make a few changes and I assume we will also after such a tough game and great win.

If Carroll isn't fit enough to start I'd go with Zarate up top. Last thing we want is Sakho burning out

Payet in reserve if required

Guess there is a chance the board might ask Bilic to 'shop window' Almafitano in this??

Can Championships sides still pick him up on loan??

glad someone agrees with my team!, I think that team will be respectful to the comp (plenty of players who have the ability to cause problems) whilst giving 3 youth players a chance to get some competitive games under their belt

I'm not sure we should field a full strength team. A long run in this competition could interfere with our plans to do the League/FA Cup double.

No consideration for the tough game and huge effort the lads put in yesterday either. I know they are professional athletes but I would be amazed if a few of them didn't need to sit this out otherwise they will be risking pulls and tweaks.

Totally agree with the point you are making though and we should put out as strong a side as we can without taking too many injury risks. Win here and it is last 16 already! We would be one decent tie away from a quarter final.

I am fairly sure a middle ground can be found with the likes of O'Brien and Collins for example who will need game time. Likewise, Oxford and a few of the other young lads need experience so it makes sense to involve them too.

I think there is a real strong possibility that this will got to extra time and some of our lads really do not need 120 mins of football on the back of yesterday.

Our development side have Newcastle tomorrow. Think the strength of that team will lead to an indication of our side for the cup game

I think you'll have to chain up Mark Noble to keep him away from this winning run.
