Re: Swansea City vs West Ham Utd: match thread
Jellyfish definitely got hung out to dry a bit yesterday. He worked really hard. When the half chances came however, they were either totally unsuited to his skillset, gaining a yard whilst facing down on a defender for example, or he was totally ****ed and just couldn't quite get on the end of things, not that there was much to get on the end of.
I reckon if we got the ball into the box properly he'd score a few goals. He seems to instinctively attack dangerous areas better than Carroll does. Getting across the front of the defender, peeling off the back of one to find a bit of space. Carroll seems to back himself to win any 50/50 ball into the box whereas Jelavic seems like he'd rather gain an advantage by making a bit more space for himself.

Have to question why we wasted so much money on someone who is probably no less of a punt than Sakho.Burnley Hammer wrote:

Re: Swansea City vs West Ham Utd: match thread
Any team with 6 ( possibly 5 certain ) starters missing are going to suffer .... Bayern , Rivere Plate , Barcelona, Chesterfield ...any team
We drew (again ) didn't lose ...still ,only lost 2 away by Xmas .
Jelavic isn't as as good as Sakho , Nobody is not as good as Payet and Lanzini . Collins isn't as good as Reid but was good yesterday ...Bet he enjoyed it being Cardiff etc
We have a lot to look forward to .. Please everyone enjoy this admittedly bumpy ride and lets just see
where we go ?
Merry Christmas

 Came here to post the same. If anything Jelavic ran himself into the ground despite being quite limited which is the only difference in the two.Aceface wrote:I must be the only one that doesn't see all that much difference between the performances of Carroll and Jelavic this season.
Neither of them look like scoring unless the ball is placed on a sixpence about 5 yards from goal, yet one is getting compared to Benni McCarthy after his first start of the season, while the other is "still coming back from injury" after being involved in 10 games of a 38 game season.
On another note, we will start to pick up form once some of our better players are back. We're having to play with ineffective strikers and a midfield with no creativity, yet we're still picking up points.

Re: Swansea City vs West Ham Utd: match thread
I don't want either Carroll or Jelavic up top alone particularly, but I'm sure this sentence basically sums up both players. But we don't play a style where we can have someone who is only a threat with balls into the box.fjthegrey wrote: I reckon if we got the ball into the box properly he'd score a few goals.
Gold has said Valencia might be fit for 90 on Boxing Day, so obviously he wasn't yesterday. If he's fit enough for 70+ mins he should start up front. However frustrating he is, he has pace and will stretch a defence with runs in behind and working the flanks. And he also shoots, never gonna dally like Jelavic.

A game he didn't even play in and you still manage to involve two criticisms of Carroll.jaybs wrote:I two pieces of dead wood in him and Carroll, it is embarrassing! Then the club last night post on Facebook how Carroll is looking forward to playing for England next summer, is he deluded? the club must take some of the blame how they have promoted his ego, instead of telling him get your head down and keep out of the media.
Will you please turn it in.

God knows mate. Glad to see him conveniently forgetting the incident when the ball literally rolled off Williams' arm in the area...psychoscoredthelot wrote:how is their manager claiming a pen against collins ?

I thought it was a great away point given our injuries, plus a clean sheet. We're keeping the points ticking over which is important.

I reckon 10 sides in the Prem would have lost that yesterday, especially with half their team out, a well earned point, Iron Mic looks promising too

The Collins handball is baffling me. He wasn't looking...it was clearly ball to hand. And the guys elbow clatterred the back of his head.
Talkshite saying he was conning the ref...expected him to be vindicated on MOTD2....but NO.
Is the love of ginger pele making me blind...or all the experts utter buffoons? Pardon?

It hit his trailing arm didn't it? (Haven't actually seen it for a second time). Perhaps why he got away with it.
Would've been harsh IMO but seen 'em given.

I was at the game, and I really liked our fans taking the piss, mimicking Swansea fans by shouting "Handball!!!" every time Swansea had a pass...that was so funny.
