Southampton 1-0 West Ham Utd (06/02/16)
Kick off Saturday 6th 17.30.
A tough game this one.
We are not in bad nick but this is definitely the wrong time to be playing a rejuvenated Southampton side who are hitting form at the right time having gone unbeaten in the last 4 games with convincing home wins against West Brom and Watford, a last minute win at Utd and a gutsy away draw at Arsenal. What’s worse is they’ve not conceded in all four of those games.
So taking in to account last night’s match and the Liverpool replay only 3 days later is this a good time for some squad rotation?
I think we should line up something like this;
Adrian
Byram
Collins
Ogbonna
Cresswell
Noble
Obiang
Moses
Payet
Antonio
Emineke
I think it's time to give Valencia a rest and see what Emineke has to offer, rest Tomkins and give Byram a run out as he will be cup tied for the FA cup and do a straight swap with Moses, Obiang, & Ogbonna for Kouyate, Song & Reid.
If we can keep it tight I think we may nick this and if so with Norwich and Sunderland up next, may give us a big gap between us and whoever's in 7th spot.

I agree, a bit of smart rotating without weakening the squad.
I fancy a 2-1 win here or a Charlie Austin hat-trick followed by a no ligaments type celebration.

Re: Southampton V West Ham match thread
they've had four clean sheets in a row.
always feel optimistic when i see things like that for some reason. like the dippers or city early in the season, you hit a club on a clean sheet streak early and they rarely recover. one can easily become two.

I believe Sakho, Carroll and Lanzini are all available but I suspect this maybe too early for them to start.Georgee Paris wrote:Is Carroll back? Anyone else?

Adrian
Tomkins-Collins-Reid-Cresswell
Kouyate-Song
Moses-Payet-Antonio
Emenike
Randolph, Ogbonna, Byram, Noble, Obiang, 2 of Sakho, Valencia, Carroll, Jelavic
Think we can do them. Have been poor for large parts of the season.

It's a huge game really. Win, and qualification for Europe is right there for us.
But realistically, I'd be happy to avoid defeat.

Re: Southampton V West Ham match thread
I get the feeling that somebody playing for Saints is going to be desperate to have a goal-scoring effect on this match.
And, frankly, who could blame him?
I would also give Byram a start.
We will need to get to grips with their midfield early on, but, if we do, a point at least is a fair target.
They won't be keeping a 5th consecutive clean sheet.

Re: Southampton V West Ham match thread
Thinking about who to start up top...
Carroll will likely make the bench, no idea how fit Emenike is and can't imagine him starting on his first ever game, potentially Jelavic's last ever West Ham appearance.
You'd actually assume he'd rest Valencia given the options but I don't think Bilic will. He'll introduce one of Emenike or Carroll with 25 minutes left I reckon.

Re: Southampton V West Ham match thread
Would keep exactly the same team. Can't believe the opening poster would drop Kouyate and Song in one of the toughest away matches. Bring on Emenike and put Valencia on the left Payet in the middle and take off one of the holding mids if we are losing.

Massive game this one. A win would give us great breathing space and sets up up nicely with Norwich and Sunderland to come.
Think i'd take a point now on the basis we won the following two. 7 points from next 3 games would be massive.

Re: Southampton V West Ham match thread
eminike will be our chaos agent. think about how bilic used jelavic, even when we had big strikers on the pitch he was thrown on to just make the defenders lives difficult in any way he could.
a nigerian headcase built like a tiger tank with pace to go with it fits that bill.

I'm trying to imagine what that would look like. Rotating his legs 360 degrees.DDHammer wrote:... a Charlie Austin hat-trick followed by a no ligaments type celebration.

Squad from last night with Emenike and these three all added...

I would be happy with a draw here, preferably with a few goals.

Re: Southampton V West Ham match thread
They are 5 points behind us, a draw there would be a decent result for us.
Although if we show up we can beat anybody and I know Slav will be setting us up to win.
