Re: West Ham Utd v Rubin Kazan: match thread
They looked far sharper than us, which figures given their season starts in ten days time.
Tore, Antonio and Feghouli looked quality at times.
At no time was the team anything like the one that will start at Chelsea in almost a months time.
The game was nothing more than match fitness minutes for the first teamers and a chance to flash a light for the rest.

He was auditioning for the 'Andy Carroll - The Movie' leading role? :lol:Ted Fenton wrote:Bilic was limping again, as per yesterday.
Have I missed comments/explanations about his limp?

Would have thought they would use a stunt double

You can run that argument both ways.OFT wrote:If (IF) i remember correctly we never won a game pre season in 85/86
In 85/86 we also started the season poorly, and hit our stride later on. A better pre-season might have meant we hit form sooner. And then we'd have been champions.

We often in the past have hit form earlier, and been dog ***** from Feb onwards.upton o'good wrote: In 85/86 we also started the season poorly, and hit our stride later on. A better pre-season might have meant we hit form sooner. And then we'd have been champions.
Champions always come good in the latter half of the season.
You are clutching at straws here.
BTW we were unbeaten from end of August until a 1-0 reverse at old Trafford end of October (league cup), and we were unlucky in that game.
The next game we lost was after Christmas.
And we started poorly?

Re: West Ham Utd v Rubin Kazan: match thread
Missed this one and don't know the score (not that the result is important) so was wondering does anyone know if the game can be streamed/watched anywhere? Just fancied seeing some of our new players a bit more.
Thanks.
Thanks.

The full match vs Slovacko was uploaded on youtube by a few people, hopefully this one will be too.I am Legend wrote:Missed this one and don't know the score (not that the result is important) so was wondering does anyone know if the game can be streamed/watched anywhere? Have you ever come across a gentleman who goes by the pseudonym 'Bury Me At The Boleyn' by any chance?Finger wrote:Can see us being outsiders for relegation contenders if we don't improve dramatically.

Plus, Chelsea is off on one of their whirlwind far eastern tours from tomorrow, which inevitably sucks the life out of their players. Hopefully they suffer the same effects as last summer's pre season shenanigans.Iron-worx wrote:They looked far sharper than us, which figures given their season starts in ten days time.

Really like the look of quina (is that how you spell it?). Unlike many kids, he's not all about fancy skills and trying to dribble his way through players unnecessarily. He seems to be quite an intelligent player and keeps the ball well. He's shown a great range of passing and always seems to be aware of what's around him.
I've been less impressed with Browne. Poor decision making and lacks a footballing brain. Loses possession too easily. Wont write him off too easily yet though as there's time for these things to improve.

Not great when Goalie is a positive!..Just seen result..Rubin Kazan (sounds like a Jewish bakery)!....All pre-season is a bit rubbish. Just avoid injury. Bookies have us down for around 55 points next season a point behind Leicester and 8th overall.bubbles1966 wrote:Positives: Feghouli, Adrian

Re: West Ham Utd v Rubin Kazan: match thread
FWIW I don't think we will be anywhere near to relegation but tbf to this Finger poster it is not inconceivable
With the new stadium and on the back of last season we will be under a lot of pressure, there will be a lot of publicity. The expectations are high. It wouldn't be the first time that a team had a good season, got in Europe and struggled with the amount of extra games regardless of how good the personnel are.
Of course, it will take a lot of negative things to conspire for us to struggle, but it shouldn't juSt be dismissed as inconceivable. Football showed us last season that the unexpected can happen.

We had Reid, Collins, Ogbonna, Lanzini, Payet, Carroll and Sakho all missing. They (or their replacements) will all be in the side at the start of the season.
We cannot read anything into games like this.

I watched both friendlies thanks to beIN sports and will watch the third on Saturday.
From what I saw the team are treating this for what it is.....a low intensity workout and for Slav to get a look at the boys in action.
Yes we lost and drew and from our point of view disappointing not to win but we can't expect a full on competitive game pre-season.
Positives: Ferghouli, Fletcher
I expect a similar season as we just had
