West Ham Utd 0-3 Southampton (25/09/16)
Only four days off despite the fact we still have a game to play between now and then, oh how I love football season!
Personally, after our meetings in the Championship, I have taken a huge disliking to this lot. I thought they were really going to struggle this season, and still think they will. Looks like our mate Charlie Austin is back on the scoresheet so we can almost be guaranteed he'll score against us...but we'll win 2-1.
Sorry to all the C&B spec wearers but I'd have Noble on the bench for this. Zaza gets another chance, I don't doubt our ability to score goals, even without Michail's bonce, but we need to tighten up at the back. A proper DM in and Ginge dropped the bench, hopefully Arbeloa puts in an assured performance tonight to earn himself a starting spot. byram on the bench instead of Collins just in case Arbeloa doesn't have 90 in him.

Not sure how I feel about two match threads... Can't this wait for another 7 or 8 hours?
Tonight's game could have a huge effect on confidence, line up, approach... this is all just too much for me! Life was so much better at the old stadium, we never had two match threads running when we were there.

West Ham United v Southampton Match Thread
I thought i'd start this thread being as i went and watched the opposition last night.
Before i get cries of "judas" i'm working at the southampton boat show and was given a free ticket.
I'm not sure how many changes they had from last weekend but they are organised and have lots of pace. They also play the ball up through the middle for Shane long to run on to and they brought Redmond on later too. They also get back and defend as a team quickly, which is why palace seemed to stop about 2/3 of the way up the pitch.
So to put it bluntly, we need to sort out our defensive midfield for this match, play as a team and keep up with the pace. I'll let you draw your own conclusions as to whether you think our chances are good.
Oh and their turnout was terrible, probably only a half full stadium.

I'll take the 1-0 here, we need the 3 points however they come just to calm a few people down at the moment. Keep it tight, don't do anything stupid and make sure we come away with the win.
Austin also in a bit of form, thought he had no ligaments?

Re: West Ham United v Southampton Match Thread
Southampton haven't had a that great a start to the season but they have strung together 3 wins in a row.
I have a feeling that this could be our most heavy defeat yet this season but we could scrape a point or, improbably, three. Valuable insight, I know
I'm quite nervous about this one. We need confidence and consistency, and you don't get one without the other in football so who knows when our form will turn. If it was our first team out there last night that kept the clean sheet I'd be a good bit more confident about the match this weekend, but it wasn't really, so I'm not sure how this one will go.
My team would be:
----------------------Randolph
Byram------Oxford------Ogbonna-----Arbeloa
------------------Noble-----Obiang
Antonio------------Lanzini------------Payet
------------------------Zaza
Zaza up front on his own hasn't been working that well for him but I think it just needs a bit of time
Prediction is 2-2.

Re: West Ham United v Southampton Match Thread
Id keep Noble as far away from the stadium as possible for the time being
we have quicker, better players who are far more technical. Real shame to see it but even at a relatively 'young' age he would appear to now be past his best
A midfield without him on Sunday, has a better chance of coping than a midfield with him

Re: West Ham United v Southampton Match Thread
Any chance we can play two up front - Fletcher and Zaza - be nice to see one of strikers get in on this goalscoring malarky. Agree with resting Nobes, but our defence has to be rock solid and that starts with Adrian - no more ****ing around with the ball and coming out when you don't need to ta...

Not bothered, watching Saints highlights he has been missing at least one nailed on opportunity per match.hammers92 wrote: Austin also in a bit of form, thought he had no ligaments?
I'd be more worried about Long tbh.
Re: West Ham United v Southampton Match Thread
Sadly, I do agree with this to an extent, he's just not a leader right now and that's what we need. However, the other option is Kouyate who's been as much use as a chocolate teapot this season and Nordtveit who's been mediocre at best. So, I reckon we keep Noble in and hope that he gets out of his sulk and leads the team with passion like he did last season.chalks wrote:Id keep Noble as far away from the stadium as possible for the time being

Re: West Ham United v Southampton Match Thread
Good side Southampton
Every season they seem to lose key players and/or manager and are still able to perform well. They clearly have a very good scouting system in place and a well defined strategy.
Their 6th place last season went under the radar. I think only Leicester had better form post christmas.
I think a draw would be a good result given the only team with 11 men we have beaten is Domzale. Trouble is we really need a win either in this one or Boro. Would take 4 points across the two games
1-1 with our goal unlikely to be scored by a striker
