A deep lying midfielder rather than a defensive player. Though he doesn't tend to get his foot in too often, he is capable of working hard closing down the opposition. But... the reason I'd play him there is because he's capable of carrying the ball forward at pace from a deep position - and more importantly, he tends to make the correct decision at the end of it and not run down blind alleys. For this to work though, you'd need a proper combative defensive midfielder with him, which is why I picked Obiang.

I chose Fernandes for the attacking midfielder as I feel that most of our chances come from high balls into the box - the best ones usually from Payet. With Fernandes being a natural attacking midfielder, and 6 foot 3, he'd be able to get himself into the box to support the striker when the crosses come in. Lanzini is more of a link up player - he's not really a threat from crosses. I think my line-up would help us to build properly from the back instead of resorting to long balls from Reid and Collins, would give us a good delivery from either side of the pitch, and good height in the box.
I've been wanting to see this midfield pairing for ages (Obiang/Lanzini). I think it would be very good for exactly the reasons you've just explained. Fernandes might be a bit of a punt but I'd be keen to see him start once we're out this rut.

Anyone received their tickets yet? I know there are ten days to go but would be nice to know that I'm not the only one waiting ;)

We seriously need to get away from the 2 man midfield as much as possible, it doesn't suit us thug now. Now and again if everyone is absolute bang on form, I'd be up for it but certainly not right now. We need to stick to a central midfield 3 to get more of a foothold on games to win and keep the ball more.

..................Adrian
Arbeloa Collins Reid Ogbonna
..................Obiang
........Noble ..........Lanzini
Antonio......................Payet
.................Carroll (if fit to last the 1st half!)

Have watched Palace a couple of times via space telly so far this season - looking good and super-fit.
We will do very well to nick a point out of this one.

1-1, Payet will get us out of trouble and Adrian will make the save of the season from a Benteke header

4:0 West Ham.

Because I want to pretend everything is alright and that we are establishing ourselves as a part of the new top 6. Rather than the fact that we're doomed... dooooooomed!

Hearing both Benteke and Remy are out of this game. Know it's early and anything could happen between now and then.

50 years a fan. And my dad and his dad. You get the message. I think it is you living in the past buddy....last season has gone. Our worst start in almost 30 years. My memory works fine. This team is poor. Can they improve ? I bloody hope so. But right now, the league position does not lie. Injuries etc are not helping but it is the same for all clubs. Please do try to keep up. Or is letting in 3 goals a match a good thing ? I have heard of optimism, but that is delusional. Hope, as they say, is not a plan.

We'll do what we failed to do at Chelsea and snatch a point

Just.

Reid to score from a Payet freekick on the 78th minute with only our 2nd shot on target

Anotnio payet wingers. Obviously Cresswell starts if fit and I'd move Ogbonna into CB in place of Reid this week.

Feghouli - Antonio - Payet

liked they way we looked last week. those slating antonio have to remember that this was his first time in this position... and many teams are starting to play like this. it's why ayew is so important to the team when he gets back... can't wait. also can't wait until cresswell is back - his link up play with payet makes him so much better and hid absence really show.

i believe we have the right players... just not sure about the strategy and positional discipline at the moment.

Picking a team of midgets to play against Palace is likely to give them a two goal start from crosses and set plays, imho.
