I agree. But he isn't fit enough to play there currentlyRyanWHUFC wrote: Love Lanzini but needs to be doing more, reckon he'd do a job in Nobles position and probably be more positive with it. Always seen Lanzini as a Modric type
Last season Payet plus Lanzini worked as Lanzini worked very hard. His injury preseason has left him short on fitness and looking a lazy player. He's not - just can't get round the pitch like last season.
Same could be said of Payet. His lack luster performances are down to not having a full preseason. Come back from the Euros, gets thrown in, gets injured, gets thrown in again.
Contrast to Sanchez at Arsenal. Come back late, isn't seen for 5 weeks doing a mini-preseason. Wenger knows what he's doing.

Opinions n' all that . . . FWIW here's mine after watching the entire game twice on space telly:
Liverpool midfield overrun us for large parts of the game. We miss Kouyate.
Thought Payet had a largely mediocre game for approx 75 mins: Couldn't trap the ball, couldn't beat his man and had a hard time making even a simple pass.Yes - perversely, that's even including the goal - he did well but it was a howler from whatshisname between the sticks that lets that one in.
Not sure what happened to Payet for the last 15 mins of the match - he got his swagger back and suddenly he seemed like he was interested in the game again. Haven't seen that from him all season. Finally, he came alive - looked like a player on fire. It's like when Austin Powers suddenly lost and then found his mojo . . .
Cresswell did well, and Reid also did a fine job along with Antonio. Tip of the hat to all.
And, yes, Randolph threw one in the net but so what? Pulls off the save of the season later on . . . remarkable.
Remedy to turn things around for the rest of the season? No different to what all you lot were saying last August - we need a RB and a forward who knows where the back of the net is . . .

Good result, especially considering they are in the top three at the moment (and we were in the bottom three).
Hopefully that will help to restore some much needed confidence, which I thought we were still lacking in this game, despite being in front, or even when level.
Definitely right to take Ayew off - still yet to see what he brings to us personally.
Good result all round.

Feed the scousers, let them know it's christmas time!! What a day out! Great performance. Blinding point and I think this game has galvanised things with Slav. Lots of effort all over the park. Cracking atmosphere and a good laugh on the train home. 4 points from the next two minimum and we're on the up.

The big stand out from yesterdays game.Stepney wrote: Lots of effort all over the park.
As West Ham fans, we look at effort and hard work as a given, a minimum requirement. Yesterday we got that and got a deserved point. Keep that up and we'll be just fine.
Re: Liverpool vs West Ham Utd: match thread
Thought we deserved a draw, they dominated but did nothing
Nordtviet for all the stick made plenty of blocks second half
Typical media deflect blame from Liverpool and Klopp and credit for us by blaming the goalkeeper for what was an utter class free kick, to get it up then down that quick and that much curve is incredible
Obiang is 7 out of 10 every week so solid, come into his own this year
Ayew isn't fit
So glad to have Cresswell back, one of the best left backs in the league

I thought the same about the free kick. Ok not one of his best but still brilliant. One pundit said "you know exactly where he is going to put it", but that's not true at all and is one of the reasons he is so deadly.fmgod wrote:Thought we deserved a draw, they dominated but did nothing

If Randolph had let that free kick in?

exactly!ironfireman wrote:So to sum it up!
Sp*rs - leading 2-1 88th min but lost
Man U - got a point, almost nicked all 3
Arsenal - got torn a new one
Liverpool- point, lost a lead
White shart Lane, old Trafford and Anfield, when we are playing badly and near the foot of the table, yet we only lost once in a game we were a couple of mins away fr9m all 3, and a point at old Trafford and Anfield is still a bloody good return. 4 very sticky games against the leagues top clubs, with only arse smashing us (we were missing kouyate, Cresswell, antonio) then it doesn't make too bad reading and certainly not the results a team destined for the drop would normally achieve, does give us something to be positive about! It's the next 4 now which is really going to tell us where we are as a team! Dropping points will not be an option!
We've just played four of the leagues finest and competed in them all but one! Let's be positive!

Re: Liverpool vs West Ham Utd: match thread
Was nice to see the players actually trying... Was a 100% improvement from Arsenal, not everyones there yet, but a big improvement. Someone else has said it already Kouyate was missed a bit. Other than that i thought we played well considering Liverpool are the top scorers so far and we were defending for the best part of the second half. Carroll came on and was telling the players to keep coming forward he was clucking for an opportunity, so good to see!
Very happy with that point considering i wasnt expecting anything at all!!
Hopefully this gives all the players a bit of confidence, next four games are crucial.

we did a great job of messing with their wall @ the free kick , the ball went straight where one of their players shouldve been

A lot better performance, still some weak links in the defence, Reid has to do so much, still not 100% convinced with Randolph at times he flaps around like a penguin or rabbit looking into a cars headlights, yes he made a superb save. but Adrian also has, Wednesday I would give him a chance, at the end of the game looking at Randolph he looked destroyed. Again we see the Noble knockers lol he had a better game than many of the others. Antonio if only you could bottle his enthusiasm.

If that's how Henderson has been playing this season, he's turned into a proper player. Used to wonder what it actually was he did. Seemed like a jack of all trades master of none type guy.

got home about half 11 last night, fantastic day with the nipper.
thought west ham fans were class yesterday, totally dominated a very subdued Anfield.
Liverpool dominated midfield, however thought we looked threatening on the counter. Reid MOM for me.
thought Nordveit was really poor, obviously cant play right back and lacks the confidence to pull off, however did better when pushed into back 3 when Fernandes came on (he can also claim an assist for Antonios goal  ). Antonio solid again in 3 positions! Payet's goal class. Definitely more like the team we saw last season!

Given our abysmal record at Anfield (despite last season's joyous aberration) a point up there is always welcome and respected. As others have said it is now vital that we follow it up with a win over Burnley.

Good point at Anfield and could have been 3 hopefully we will now push on from this.
Would start fletcher against Burnley Ayew looks of the pace and thought Nordveit was shocking
