Re: Leicester City vs West Ham United: Match Thread
Watching both more or less back to back today showed ours was way more entertaining, exciting and with proper challenges flying in. Way better.
Re: Leicester City vs West Ham United: Match Thread
Payet had a rest at the start of the season and since then he's probably ran 1/3 the distance as most of our other players.
If he looks like he needs a rest it's because he isn't trying hard enough.

[quote="Bubbles & Squeaks 77"]On the way home now and not too despondent after that.
We had our chances and Schmeichel had to make a couple of decent saves.
Reid MOTM for me - thought he was superb today.
Nordveit put in a really good shift too.
Had to laugh when Antonio chased Schmeichel around for the ball when he thought it hadn't gone out.
On the negative side.
Our corners were woeful today.
Kouyate was poor and Andre Ayew does not look like a £20m quid player and he'll never repay that fee back.

Exactly that. The last thing he needs is physical rest. The only 'rest' out of the team he needs, is if his heads been turned. The worrying signs are there and he definitely isn't working hard enough. Even Andy Carroll legged it back to cover Cresswell running past Payet at one point. That is completely unacceptable levels of team work for me, regardless of how good someone can be at times with the ball at their feet. Not that he was any good today at set pieces today, the opposite in fact.DDHammer wrote:Payet had a rest at the start of the season and since then he's probably ran 1/3 the distance as most of our other players.

We missed Kouyate at the back, just as much as we missed him in midfield today. Went back to his old ways earlier in the season playing in the middle.
Leciester are shock horror, still dirty, cynical c****.

My first game for 6 1/2 years, at times today I remember why I emigrated. I'v never posted my thoughts on a game here since I've been a member because what you see on TV doesn't show the proper game imho.
I've seen peoples thoughts on Noble and thought it was pony but today he wasn't good so I'll assume that how he has been for a lot of this season. It was as if everything had to go through him which meant slowing the game down or sending it backwards. Our main tactic seemed to be hoof it to AC and see what happened, nothing generally. If Ayew cost £20 million, my arse is a peach. For me, the only 3 players who stood out today were Reid, Randolph and Nordberg. Reid was reliable as was Randolph and Nordberg was always available. I thought the whole dynamic of our game improved when Lanzini came on, made some errors but worked hard to get the ball back. The service to the strikers was poor, the midfield needs some attention.
On another note, after 6+ years away, can somebody explain to me in what parallel universe it was that Leicester City won the Premier League last year, they were bloody awful with pretty much the same team. Kante must have been 100 times better than he looked on TV. Is it correct that Huth, Simpson, Gray and others have got league winners medals and Moore, Brooking and Bonds haven't?

Two poor sides really, only brights for me was Randolph made a few decent saves, Nord looked more solid. Antonio I love him but at times he looks League Two then will magically get a goal, his baffling movement and heading in the box is world class other times his decision making and technical ability is dreadful, not a dig.
I don't mind Ayew but if we was spending twenty mil pre-season we had no real need for him, his not a striker as much as anyone wants to paint him as, his a winger

Re: Leicester City vs West Ham United: Match Thread
It's a major problem, you would struggle to find any top 6 side who would let his poor passing go unoticed. Slav has the issue of dropping our top goalscorer who's a fan favourite.fmgod wrote:Antonio I love him but at times he looks League Two then will magically get a goal, his baffling movement and heading in the box is world class other times his decision making and technical ability is dreadful, not a dig.
I looked at the stats and he was giving the ball away about 50% of the time last year through sloppy passes or miscontrolling the ball or running into someone when dribbling. It's an awful lot of giving the ball to the opposition.

Re: Leicester City vs West Ham United: Match Thread
Antonios passing in this league has always been an issue, but more worryingly than that, he's not contributing any assists this season beyond winning fouls/penalties. But the one commodity we severely lack at times is goals and he has bundles of them to offer so we have to take the rough with the smooth with his game. Because he's always a threat in front of goal, I'm reluctant to take him out the side. That doesn't mean he's undroppable though.
The way I look at him is a 15 goal a season man, or near as damn it.

[quote="Beavis Danzig"]The trenches is where we will be very soon if we keep Bilic at the helm! IMO
Unfortunately the board won't sack him as that will mean paying up his contract, so we are stuck with Slav and Sully until Red Bull buy the club!
when are we stuck with you until?

Antonio is a bulldozer of a player , bashes through with his runs and half of the time we lose possession but defenders do not like it and if 1/2 of his runs prove fruitful then that is fine, look at Stirling tonight and a lot of his games for whoever he plays for, absolute dogshit, Antonio needs a better coach that is all or better coaching. The player in him is phenomenal.

That's how I often describe his style too. You'd hate to face up to him for 90+ minutes down the flank, it's just a shame he doesn't occasionally make the right pass/decision at the right time because if he did add that element to his game, he'd be an outstanding player. At 26, I think there's still time to polish up his game and squeeze a bit more out of him than just goals and work rate. The passing/assists need to improve in time. More of a constructive criticism of his game, rather than just criticising him for the sake of it.

Thought Nordveit, Reid, Randolph, Cresswell were quite good today.
Thought Noble, Payet, and Kouyate were really bad.
I think Payet needs to sit not because he is tired or needs a rest, but because he is lazy. He is the reason we gave up that goal. He had tons of great opportunities with corners and free kicks and never put the team in position to score. Disappointing.

Re: Leicester City vs West Ham United: Match Thread
Dominating possession is not the same as bossing the game .Leicester were happy to see us have the ball for 70 minutes , they deliberately stopped pressing as soon as they took the lead and were happy to retreat into a solid defensive shape and defend their box .
Consequently we didn't work their keeper nearly often enough , we had a few chances but Schmichael was hardly rushed off his feet .Neither was Randolph, but that didn't matter to them as they already had the lead .No need for me to point out where the cross came in from for their goal .Acres of space, all the time in the world :talent without work is nothing .
The first 20 minutes showed Leicester to be much better than us , they were half a yard quicker all over the pitch and could have been 2 up by the time they scored .For my money, Noble had a difficult game , the pace in the opening 20 was a bit too much and I'm personally convinced Kouyates future with us should be at CB .
My main gripe at the minute though is the ongoing lack of bodies in the oppositions box when we are attacking : a 5-1 ratio against us means we're always going to struggle to score .We don't appear to be sure whether we are trying to walk the ball into our opponents goal or launch crosses into the box for multiple players to get on the end of .In the end we do neither .
We're not defending properly and we're not attacking properly .The fact we had a huge amount of the ball isn't really relevant , what is relevant is that when we were in possession Leicester rarely had 2 players in front of the ball .
We had the ball, but they controlled the game .

Why did payet one of the best dead ball specialists I've seen fail to get the majority of our corners past their first mans head !? With Carroll and Antonio in the box that is potentially the biggest threat from a corner in the whole of the league! Frustrating was alsmost as bad as when noble used to take them!
Re: Leicester City vs West Ham United: Match Thread
At A&E twelve hours overnight with my old Ma so didn't wake up in time to see the first fifty five minutes. What I did see though looked like a winning performance, which is weird really given the poor performances that have resulted in wins of late. It's a funny old game eh, hasn't somebody said that before...
Re: Leicester City vs West Ham United: Match Thread
The only time he cleared the first man the ball went to far back and straight out of the penalty box. I failure to take a decent corner has been a West Ham frustration for many years.jammys78 wrote:Why did payet one of the best dead ball specialists I've seen fail to get the majority of our corners past their first mans head !? Re: Leicester City vs West Ham United: Match Thread
It just doesn't feel right at the minute any way I look at it. Feels like we're just muddling through the season making it up as we go along doing as best we can. That's not necessarily a bad thing short term to stem the tide, as long as there's a philosophy to believe in at the end of it.
Last season had real purpose and a philosophy everyone bought in too, to be solid defensively and to spring in to life on the counter attack attacking with purpose and not keep possession just for the sake of it. I'm struggling to detect one these days and it seems to be decided a bit more on a wing and a prayer relying too much on individual quality, rather than a team ethos.

I've jokingly nicknamed him the "sunday league footballer". He only genuinely only has two decent attributes, 1) knocking a ball into space and outmuscling/out pacing the opposition and his attacking headers.fmgod wrote: Antonio I love him but at times he looks League Two then will magically get a goal, his baffling movement and heading in the box is world class other times his decision making and technical ability is dreadful, not a dig.

Re: Leicester City vs West Ham United: Match Thread
Scoring goals regularly at this level is also another pretty big attribute too. Unlucky not to have scored another today with his left leg.
