Our best team right now is...

Randolph
Fonte, Kouyate, Reid
Feghouli, Noble, Obiang, Antonio
Snodgrass, Lanzini
Carroll

Plenty on the bench for this one

He lacks discipline when he plays in midfield, I feel like he's only safe in central defence where he knows he can't f**k about.

Bloke is a total liability in a midfield two.

I'm not so sure. It seemed to work really well last season with just Kouyate and Noble as the pairing.

For now though, Obiang has to start, he's been our best and most consistent midfielder this season. It's nice to finally have enough players on form that we finally have a bit of a selection headache re: who to drop!

Everyone was crap at the start of the season, don't know why Kouyate is being singled out...especially after last season, he was amazing.

Randolph
Kouyate Fonte Reid Masuaku (if fully fit)
Noble Obiang
Feghouli Lanzini Snodgrass
Carroll (if fully fit)

if Masuaku is injured, play Cresswell
If Carroll is injured, play Calleri (looked very good vs West Brom and go into the correct positions)

We were amazing last season , but Kouyate still wandered around all over the shop, we were just playing better. He's good but I just don't think he has the intelligence or discipline to be a regular first choice central midfield player for a top 8 club, he's no Pedro but it that way.

1. Drop him
2. Build the team around him

They are not our only two options, there is middle ground...

That's exactly what he did last season though isn't it?

He wanders and gets carried away too often for me, we need central midfielders to do their job and let the other players do theirs.

Not having a dig, I just don't get how someone who rates Antonio as much as you do, can make that observation about Kouyate and not see the total lack of discipline in Antonio's game.

Antonio is a wide attacker so there's less onus on him defending and staying in position, it's essential for a central midfielder to stick solely to that task, imo.

All about opinions I guess, but personally I believe that both positions require discipline and defensive duties, i.e. covering your full back/central defender. I think the fact we have been systematically targeted down the right side and conceded so many goals from that side all indicates his lack of discipline and covering. But fair enough, you see it differently.

I'd actually build the team around our 'jewel' Lanzini with Kouyate & Obiang behind him. They seem the perfect balance of playing styles in the middle for me. Kouyate has a massive presence in the middle, able to run box to box for 90mins, and physically able to compete.
