West Ham Utd 1-2 Chelsea (06/03/17)

Re: West Ham Utd vs Chelsea: Match Thread
Adrian
Byram, Fonte, Reid, Cresswell
Kouyate, Obiang
Feghouli, Lanzini, Ayew
Carroll
Not sure if Carroll starting is the answer, think we'll need as much pace as possible for the counter if we're going to spend 90 minutes on the back foot, Antonio being out changes things though. Noble will probably start, worried about him chasing shadows and being walked past all game so hopefully he can mark someone up a bit better, stand 5 yards off someone and he'll be non-existent all game.

Sorry to say but this is gona be a bad day at the office. They'll do what Arsenal and Man City did to us. Back to winning ways against Bournemouth though....

Byram Reid Fonte Cresswell
--Kouyate Obiang Noble
------------Lanzini
--------Carroll Ayew
Put 3 in centre mid to protect the back 4, then give Lanzini free reign and have 2 up top with Ayew looking for flick ons / knock downs from Carroll.

Slav won't change the keeper but otherwise I like the look of that side
Crucial Lanzini starts (and stays) central.

Feel exactly the same. I am dreading this game and the Spurs home game. Further laughing stock material.Stepney wrote:Sorry to say but this is gona be a bad day at the office. They'll do what Arsenal and Man City did to us. Back to winning ways against Bournemouth though....

totally agree although i hate spurs moreCoops wrote:I am trying to approach this in the same way I approached the Man Citys game, we will get stuffed so I will have a few beers and just try to enjoy it anyway.
But this is different, I hate them ***** more than anybody else and the cup game has given me an irrational glimmer of hope.

I don't know what's worse - the glimmer of hope that we might get something from this, or having to wait what seems like an eternity again for KO.
Re: West Ham Utd vs Chelsea: Match Thread
Trying to contain world class attacking players like Hazard, Pedro and Costa on that pitch is going to be a nightmare
We've seen it with full strength Arsenal and City squads, fear it will be the same against these
Like many teams have done already, they'll look to target us down our right side

Or Big Andy could rise like the proverbial salmon and smash a header into the back of net to grab the winner like he did last season.Stepney wrote:Sorry to say but this is gona be a bad day at the office. Unfortunately, I have a feeling your assessment is more likely.
Re: West Ham Utd vs Chelsea: Match Thread
They won't beat us as badly as Arsenal or City because they don't quite have the same pace as those teams to exploit the space.
Hazard Vs. whoever plays RB is frightening, I'd go 3-5-2 with wing backs to contain Hazard but then again, they're so good at that formation they'll just do us man for man.
If Carroll plays we could snatch a point or three. If not, no chance..

don't want to alarm anyone, but despite feeling quite optimistic about this match i just had a dream that we lost it 5,000 - 0.

I can't see Chelsea slipping up unfortunately , we are lacking firepower and now come up against a solid unit who are dangerous going forward.

Re: West Ham Utd vs Chelsea: Match Thread
I would prefer to have Carroll off the bench for this like last season. However, given Antonio is out i don't think there is any choice but to start him
The problem is he is going to be completely isolated, and his strengths are not those of a lone forward against a mobile back 3

Re: West Ham Utd vs Chelsea: Match Thread
not a good time for us to play them with antonio out and carroll not fit.
stopping their fullbacks is key and keeping tight in the middle. worry noble will be too slow but he will start.
keep it tight and with a passionate crowd behind them we may surprise them. unfortuanetly they also have a week of rest and no injury worries. expect a lot down our right side.
would take a draw now.
ever the optimist 1-0 west ham

Re: West Ham Utd vs Chelsea: Match Thread
Conte's team will try to run us off the pitch, and unless we are prepared to park the bus, we will lose.
We need to line up without an out and out striker. Let the likes of Ayew and Lanzini break from midfield, along with Feghouli. Tight at the back, just keep it tight at the back.

Was absolutely pumped for this when I booked flights, feeling far less confident now.
Either 0-5 or 1-0.
Obiang to man mark Hazard out of the game

This is the game we need to be worried about. The thought of shipping 4 or 5 again is miserable. We need to go tight and solid. Let's bore the arse off everyone and come away with a point please. Go toe to toe and we will be the laughing stock again on TV for everyone to see.
Not again, bore me please.
