Re: Arsenal vs West Ham United Match Thread
Drop kouyate back into defence instead of collins. Play masuaku left back. Congest the middle by instructing full backs to play narrower than normal. Force Arsenal wide. Play a narrow midfield diamond with no wingers. Nordtveit at the base, noble and fernades centre, lanzini at the tip. Have ayew and antonio up front working the channels and causing havoc. Keep it tight, and hit on the counter. That's what I'd do anyway. And yes i would drop carroll for this, but thats only due to fact i'd play with no wingers. Don't think we'll get anywhere by being pinned back and then hoofing it long when we do get it.

Agreed. CB is his best position if you ask me.Burnley Hammer wrote:Drop kouyate back into defence instead of collins

Yep, that's the only place I pick him in my starting line ups .DrVenk wrote: Agreed. CB is his best position if you ask me.
He's a CB that has tried to make the leap to CM based upon his superb physique and athleticism , but sadly his passing is simply not good enough further up the pitch .People confuse running around a lot with being a good player .

I can just see sanchez and ozil having their performance of the season and oxlaide-chamberpot being interviewed after the game saying how that performance was for Wenger and its how they should have been playing all season and they owed it to the fans

Lose against Hull, beat Arsenal, lose to Swansea.
We need the experienced members of our squad to galvanise a backs to the wall performance in this. Back to basics Fat Samesq. With a cheeky late break away goal. Memories of Leroy, people sent flying over seats and the longest conger ever snaking back to the station.
Keep it tight for as long as possible and the Tarquins will soon start tutting. Please have a plan West Ham and stick to it!

Re: Arsenal vs West Ham United Match Thread
I think Allardyce threw him in at CB a few years back---away to Manure or Arsenal? I forget. But he was a monster. He's got good mobility for a CB, which is a big big advantage in the Prem. And yes, agree - his passing is second rate... and he does love to run down a blind alley when playing midfield.

Best I can think is their form has been slippery of late. A point would give me an orgasm
Re: Arsenal vs West Ham United Match Thread
Anything anything from this game would be fantastic.
Unfortunately I can't see that happening, even with my most claret of claret glasses.
Just hope our negative goal difference doesn't get out of hand as, god help us, it could come down to that in May

Re: Arsenal vs West Ham United Match Thread
It's not this match we need worry about, but:-
Burnley v Stoke (Burnley)
Hull v Middledborough (Hull)
Southampton v Palace (Palace)
Those results go the way, I think they will, that will put us down in 26th position and only 3 points from the drop zone and reallybin the relegation mix

Re: Arsenal vs West Ham United Match Thread
The midfield balance has been dreadful defensively for most of Bilic's reign with the exception of those startling early away victories when he played a much tighter three.
What Kouyate lacks in finesse, Noble lacks in athleticism. It's broad as it's long.
Our starting midfield three next season needs to be Obiang, Lanzini plus one yet as unsigned player who combines the best attributes of Kouyate and Noble.
I want to see Adrian back in goal for this one and the rest of the year , Byram can continue his education while there need to be a pair of advanced CBs ahead of the actual CBs. Carroll has scored four times in his last 70 minutes or so of football against this lot.
Losing to Hull and Bournemouth is something to be taken in good humour. Losing to Arsenal isn't.
I'd go there looking to blag a 1-0 but suspect it will be 1-6 or maybe 1-7 Arsenal if Slav goes with one DM again.

Re: Arsenal vs West Ham United Match Thread
Kouyate does put his foot in though. Mobile in the middle too, even if gangly. It's a point ive been trying to make for a while though, Kouyate certainly was never the cure for our midfield woes.
I'd keep Antonio on the bench if he passes a fitness dash and makes the squad. I would go so far as to say our season may rest on him, breaking down would be catastrophic.
Return to the old 4-1-2-1-2:
Adrian
Byram Fonte Kouyate Masuaku
Nordy
Noble Fernandes
Lanzini
Ayew Carroll
Ayew and Lanzini will both drift deeper into the game when required, we need more numbers doing work in midfield so i'd get rid of both wingers (who were both ineffective this weekend) and put a holding midfielder in with Nordtveit and legs and composure of Fernandes. The latter can also get up and down the pitch, meaning we will get 4 people going on the counter, but wont be exposed too much when we screw up.
The system also allows our full backs more security when they go forward, and more support when pinned back. You could argue its realistically more of a 4-1-3-1-1 but these formations are never like they are written with simple numbers.
Whatever you call it, in recent weeks our midfield has looked entirely ineffective and parted like the red sea on too many occasions.
