I remember a couple of years ago we struggled all pre season got knocked out of the Europa league after struggling against barely professional teams and then we turned up and beat Arsenal 2 nil away on opening day.Mosterhammer wrote:Why? They are practising his tactics. Pre-season is when you set the team, make them play as you wan't, with the tactics you wan't and get them fit so they can cope against the other teams. Our manager has done none of the above. Why can he not be criticized?

The whole fitness issue has been present ever since Bilic took charge.
Even in the final year at UP we were blowing out of are A*ses at the 65 min mark.
The backroom staff need to up there game or they will cost both Bilic and themselves a job.

If this is the reaction on here in pre season I'm dreading next week.

Well, it's an improvement on January and February's results
I wouldn't be too worried by pre-season form and performances, let's judge the team and manager on competitive fixtures. COYI!

Perhaps you could try to counter it with something constructive, rather than continue in a similar vein.Rasp wrote:The negativity on here is mind boggling.
Agreed.
Can't understand the people who say Bilic 'gets us'
Organising your team to be so unfit/can't tackle/can't defend/no energy/no idea - is that what he thinks we want?
I think we should expect better, the players are not bad players.
I know. I hate to say it, but i would actually rather have Allardyce managing this team And I have never been a fan of his, but even though his tactics were defensive they were tactics and the players knew what they were supposed to do. He never had a team with this much quality either, I actually belive our first eleven is quite good and would give many teams a good fight if they were fit and played together under a manager who wasn't just a likeable guy but a proven manager.

Ideal workout for our boys.
They've been tested by one of the best teams in the PL and Europe - most weeks they'll be facing Swansea, Burnley, West Brom et al - so it's smooth sailing from here on in.
Our best 5 players from last year sat the game out (Reid, Kouyate, Antonio, Carroll, Lanzini) and a few of the newbies (Hernandez, Hart, Rice ) did alright.
Clearly, our tactics were to try and retain the ball against a team like Man City because once we lose it, it takes 10 minutes to get it back. Ayew's goal should have counted.
The pass that's always half a pace behind the player reeks of 'don't lose the ball' being drummed into players.

We kept losing 5-0 to this mob last season. If we swing two goals to the good against every team this season we'll win the league.

Wish we stuck to 3 at the back throughout pre season, worked wonders for us last season

My next door neighbour is a devout Arsenal fan. He had a good laugh a few weeks ago when I told him we've employed their old fitness coach Gary Lewin, and then said "good luck with that."faubert93 wrote:The backroom staff need to up there game or they will cost both Bilic and themselves a job.

Lewin left Arsenal 9 years ago and since then their injury record has declined significantly. I don't recall the likes of Henry, Viera, Petit, Pires missing many games.steps wrote:

Spoken (and seen online) a lot of Arsenal fans gutted he left and wanted him back to replace his cousin who took over the Arsenal role after he departed for England. Maybe the original poster's neighbour got the two cousins mixed up.ihateroeder wrote:That contradicts what my Arsenal mates said

Over the moon with 3-0 tbh. After seeing them against spurs, plus fact we played Tuesday was honestly expecting 6 or 7 .Hopefully arnie ok.
Re: West Ham Utd v Manchester City: match thread
Maybe he did. Although he told me Lewin hadn't left Arsenal as he was still working with the ladies' team while with England. So this makes me think he couldn't of had them mixed up.Kitt the car wrote:
