I was going to go for a conservative 6 - 1 win, but I like your style fj

Apparently Reid, Lanzini and Arnie will all be fit.

I'm desperate for those first 2 to be fit, worried about Lanzini missing so many pre-season games.

I do like the look of that team and for me, is the best possible line-up I've seen so far. Although Byram worries me and so does the team's general lack of pace.

When everyone is fit, I'd put Zab RB, Kouyate in beside Obiang and replace Fonte with someone like Smalling. Gives us more muscle, legs and pace in the important areas.

It's a strange thing that we have 4 pretty good central defenders, certainly relative to our historical baseline, and yet the only permutation that's ever looked completely natural is Reid and Collins - Reid on the left, Collins on the right. But one's only half-fit and the other is as old as God.

can see this being a tight game to be honest.

1-0 UTD win.

Hart to play a blinda but eventually gets beaten.

Doubt very much it will happen, though I like the look of that team.
I'm a bit surprised Bilic didn't use Zabaleta in that position at any time during pre-season. Instead he experimented with Rice there, who looks better at centre-back in any case.

Is kouyate out for this one?

If not I would go with:

---------------- hart ------------
Zabaleta Reid ogbonna masuaku
---------kouyate obiang----------
Ayew--------Lanzini-------arnautovic
------------ hernandez-----------

Or if we are looking at 3 at the back which I find unlikely after pre-season line ups:

------------------ hart ---------------
-----zabaleta reid ogbonna------
Byram obiang kouyate masuaku
--lanzini hernandez arnautovic--

If everyone was fit this is what I would like to play:

-----------------hart---------------------
Zabaleta Reid ogbonna masuaku
---------------obiang-------------------
Antonio ayew lanzini arnautovic
-------------Hernandez--------------

This thread, and the selections within it, tell us all we need to know about the problems with our squad.

Lanzini, Arnautovic, Hernandez and Ayew pretty much pick themselves as the front 4 as everyone else is injured or way below them.

Meanwhile, the back 6's are all over the place Image

There is little to no agreement on who the best players are in each position, what formation we should play etc etc. That suggests a shortfall on quality.

There's no middle ground where some defenders and attackers are nailed on, whilst some aren't.

Need to see who's fit. For me, Kouyate is the only automatic choice in the back 6 - though even his actual position on the pitch in that six is open to debate.

Tin hat on - I don't get the level of negativity towards Fonte. He ain't Bobby Moore, but he ain't Gary Breen either.

I actually think we need a solid performance here rather than an expectation of a result. A draw is certainly conceivable. Far rather we played against Lukaku than Ibrahimovic.

Bad memories of my last visit to Old Trafford.

Surely can't be worse than that game, after all, we had someone entirely quit on us during that.

Adrian
Cresswell
Ogbonna
Reid
Fonte
Zabaleta
Obiang
Noble
Lanzini
Arnautovic
Hernandez

What I'd go for with what's available, in a tight, counterattacking 3-5-2. Try to soak up the pressure and limit opportunities, hope to nick something from the three attackers and a moment of maverick magic somewhere.

I hope it's a decent result, and a good performance from whoever is selected/available, as it is inevitable that Lukaku will score at some point (even if he's not playing . . . . .)

To me, this is the culmination of the remedial work done by Manchester United since 2013 when Fergie retired. Sure, Moyes and Van Gaal made efforts to recover the spirit of Fergie's charges, but I have not seen as tidy looking a Manchester United team in years. Matic and Lukaku are excellent signings, and will compliment Pogba and Mkhitaryan brilliantly. The fact that they have managed to retain De Gea for as long as they have is a credit, and with Champions League football back on the table, it is hard not to feel like there is an air about the Club at the moment.

At least we are likely to start the season with all our signings on the pitch, all of which have capability of doing great things, and they are spread out across the pitch. The problem lies in midfield where I feel we look a little stagnant in the centre, i.e. Obiang, Noble, Fernandes I feel will struggle to cope with the quality in Man Utd's midfield. Having Hernandez on the pitch is invaluable for us, and I feel he will get amongst the goals quickly.

I think United will win this game, but I think we will make them work for it.

I can’t see us scoring in this game obviously hope I’m wrong. Lukaku with better players around him is a scary thought against our fragile backline and powder puff midfield.

For the love of God don't park near the stadium, getting away from their car parks last time was a nightmare.
