Southampton 3-2 West Ham Utd (19/08/17)

Post by Lostcoco »

Southampton vs West Ham United
Saturday 19 August, 15:00
St. Mary's Stadium

Might be a bit premature but i'd like to see what everyone's take on this game is and how they'd like to see us line up

Personally, id like us to go back to 3 at the back. Of course this depends if Cheik and Lanzini are back in time, but apparently they'll be back after the Southampton

Hart
Zabaleta Reid Ogbonna
Byram Noble Obiang Cresswell
Antonio Chicharito Arnautovic

if Lanzini and Cheik are back

Hart
Zabaleta Cheik Reid
Byram Noble Lanzini Cresswell
Antonio Chicharito Arnautovic

Would like to see...

----------------------- Hart---------------
Zabaleta --- Reid --- Ogbonna -- Cresswell
---------------Noble -- -- Carvalho -------
-------------------- Lanzini -----------------
Antonio ------------------------------ Arnautovic
------------------ Hernandez ------------

However don't think Lanzini will be fit....

So would consider

-------------------------- Hart---------------
---------- Zabaleta -- Reid -- Ogbonna ----------
Byram ----------------------------------------- Cresswell
---------------- Carvalho --- Noble ------------------
---------Antonio ------------------ Arnautovic --------
--------------------- Hernandez ----------------------

I didnt include Kouyate as I didn't even think he had returned to training yet and not had a preseason

Thought he was back after the international break along with Carroll (possibly maybe)

Simple. Beaten by a team which you could pluck a few combinations of two players that cost more than our entire squad.......

This will be a lot tighter than today, 1-1 my prediction. Think we'll concede late on

Interesting that Reid was our best rated player according to that.

Doubt the Carvalho deal will done in time for weekend. But from the performances today some players need to come out Ayew, Fernandes and maybe Obiang. In if fit need to come Rice, Antonio and Lanzini if Lanzini not fit then Kouyate.

Things get missed on straight viewing.

I thought Obiang was iffy in possession, but he made 12 defensive contributions. Fernandes made 0.

Hard enough playing against Pogba, Matic etc at the best of times - but if you're carrying the other 'athlete', etc

Ogbonna getting a coating in the thread - yet he stopped two tap ins in the first 30 mins.

As a general rule with who scored - any rating under 6.5 = poor, under 6.0 = awful.

I'd go

-------------------------- Hart---------------
---------- Zabaleta -- Reid -- Ogbonna ----------
Byram ----------------------------------------- Cresswell
---------------- Obiang --- Noble ------------------
---------Antonio ------------------ Arnautovic --------
--------------------- Hernandez ----------------------

We simply can't seem to defend with a back 4, lucky Southampton are probably one of the least dangerous offensive teams in the league without Austin.

Well. Shut my mouth.

Perhaps with the tweak in personnel next weekend it'll look more effective.

The only player who featured in midfield today that actually looked like he could receive the ball and move it on to another West Ham shirt.

Plus I'd just want to drop Obiang.
