I wouldn't make too many changes for this, making 4 or 5 changes won't help the team gel. Probably bring in Cresswell and Antonio.

Can someone tell me Fernandes' natural position? And where he was supposed to be playing yesterday?

Ironically the best I've seen him play is at RB.

Slav didn't line up once with 3 at the back so I cannot see that formation taking shape unless we get desperate.

Didn't we have this situation last season? Deja vu unfortunately.

Anyway,

I think it will be the same team but Cresswell for Masuaku, who looked pretty awful yesterday. Off day or just out of his depth? Not sure but Cresswell now has his chance to prove to Slav.

Ayew on the right is suicide with Zaba on the same side. He offers 0 defensively so that needs sorting before the weekend.

Fernandes is horribly unready for any role with responsibility.

Perfect to come on and add impetus to flagging legs in a system containing performaing players of a decent quality, but not currently to be relied on.

Obiang was poor yesterday, but improved and had an ok second half and is still a decent player.

Fernandes was absolutely anonymous in all regards.

Fernandes: zero for tackles, interceptions, clearances and headers. That's unacceptable even for a 21 year old. He's got talent but I'm not sure the midfield hurly burly is for him.

With any luck the midfield could be Carvalho - Obiang - Noble against Saints with the skipper furthest forward of the three. Last chance saloon for Obiang who for me is decent at everything but excels at nothing. Not convinced he's got a pair of b*llocks when it matters either. Rice is waiting in the wings and looks promising. I'm assuming Lanzini and Kouyate will still be out. If Kouyate is back f*** Pedro off out of it.

The perfect description for far too many of our squad .

The gap between the starting XI and the 2nd XI in a number of position isn't sufficient to move us above mid table .

We're ordinary .

Southampton absolutely battered Swansea over the weekend and they didn't score. We are so poor at defending that I cant imagine we wont concede, so all their goals to come at once.

Another loss imo

Has got into the habit of turning the ball over really easily and doesn't see the consequence of what he is about to do.

Gets really dozy, loss of concentration with a ball across midfield. And straight away they are breaking into our defensive areas.

I was a bit of a silent fan of his. Maybe it will come through more games after the injury. But .....

from not available for selection, to starting 6 days later, in a situation where they've missed the end of pre-season?

Seems unlikely, as does putting Carvalho straight in, even if he signs in time.

Saints to score three, nailed on.

Bottom of the league with an appalling goal difference before we get to play at home.

antonio said on TV he could've been in selection for the mancs but they (or he) decided to go in with the 23s so he could feel more confident that he was match fit as there are things about playing a match you can't replicate in training.

certain he'll be in contention, bar a setback.

Need some muscle in that midfield. Let's hope we get Carvalho in before this game.
