Reckon Wenger might go strong for this for fear of backlash from the fans. I'd start Hernandez and Ayew in this one, Rice and Collins too after their efforts yesterday.

Hart
Reid-Collins-Ogbonna
Byram-Rice-Obiang-Masuaku
Lanzini
Hernandez-Arnautovic
SUBS - Adrian, Cresswell, Zabaleta, Haksabanovic, Ayew, Antonio, Fernandes
FYI - I'd prefer to keep Adrian but I'm pretty certain that's not going to happen.

Re: Arsenal v West Ham Utd: match thread
The first big test for David Moyes .
Thousands of supporters making a long trek to the grim North will want to see as a minimum that a quarter final cup competition is taken seriously by the new manager .Hopefully he won't let himself be bullied by the Chairman .
This match matters to the supporters , so let's be seeing the strongest side we can field please .

Re: Arsenal v West Ham Utd: match thread
Another clean sheet here and all major suppliers will face a run on humble pie.
Purely from squad considerations, however, I can well imagine that the new coaching team could have done without this game. Sure, The Emirates is nothing like Highbury and Arsenal fans are hardly the biggest test to play in front of, but this is a derby, again, the 3rd we've played in a long fortnight. And we've got absentees in defence and others who have taken recent knocks.
I can imagine that some of Antonio, Lanzini and Marko, if not all, will be given a bench-style breather, so it is good that Hernandez, Ayew and Sakho have been subs recently.
The most tantalising prospect though is the return of Joe Hart, 3 weeks and a significant upturn in fortunes after his last game. It seems that his best route back into the league first team is to put in some commanding cup performances.
Arsenal are already looking at cups as their only chance of silverware. The thing is, though, is that they are nothing special.
Both teams to make changes, therefore.
West Ham in the 90: Hernandez.

Re: Arsenal v West Ham Utd: match thread
A few players have given their all recently and could do with a rest
Adrian, Ogbonna, Antonio, Lanzini out
Hart, Reid, Sakho, Ayew in
Is Byram fit? If so, him for Zab too
That team is still taking this more than seriously. Give Hernandez the 2nd half too...maybe for Arnie
Lots of games coming up

Re: Arsenal v West Ham Utd: match thread
No way would I bring Hart back for this, the defence look far more comfortable in front of Adrian, don't care about keeping Hart happy, as he done nothing to warrant being signed after his loan expires, back Adrian to the hilt, and look to bring in a young promising back up.
Would have to give Antonio a rest though, bring in Hernandez up front

That's my thinking....
The cup competitions seem a cosy way of keeping the Sub goalie happy but now's not the time for that IMO..continuity is king.

Important in the position we've been in the last two years with 2 permanent West Ham players to worry about keeping happy. This year is different.OFT wrote:The cup competitions seem a cosy way of keeping the Sub goalie happy but now's not the time for that IMO..continuity is king.
The only considerations should be what is best to win the game and for Adrian's condition. If Moyes wants to give him a break after a huge fortnight for him and thinks Hart can do a good job then great. No need to worry about Hart getting pissed off though, worst case is he begs us and City to let him go back in January.

Re: Arsenal v West Ham Utd: match thread
Goalkeeper is one area of the team that you shouldn't have to rotate for the sake of fitness. Given that our current 2nd keeper is only on loan, for me Adrian has to start.
Who knows what effect having him between the sticks has had on the lads in front of him. Maybe it's a coincidence, maybe it's just the change of formation and plan - but it could be a factor.

That's interesting. If Hart plays well would Adrian then lose his place for Premier League games?ironsjh wrote:Hart...

If not, that would suggest that Hart was indeed "dropped" not merely lost his place to an in-form keeper. And if he was therefore "dropped" then that would be due to poor form, so how would you (Moyes, that is) warrant picking him for an important cup match?

This is the biggest game of the season so far to me.
Strongest fit 11. Adrian should start.

Re: Arsenal v West Ham Utd: match thread
Now we've given ourselves some breathing space in the Premier League there's really no excuse not to at least try to beat Arsenal at the Emirates - After failing to qualify for the Champions League last season surely Wenger's priority is the Premier League so hopefully he won't field too strong a team , traditionally it's not a Cup that Arsenal take an interest in .
Will be interesting to see what tactics Moyes employs , I suspect it will be to defend and hope to catch them on the break - Arnautovic and Hernandez to score , 0-2 West Ham .

This. He’s the better keeper. What benefit do we get from playing Hart? He’s not our player so I don’t see the point.Doc H Ball wrote:This is the biggest game of the season so far to me.

Adrian; Reid, Ogbonna, Cresswell; Byram, Masuaku; Rice, Obiang; Lanzini (Ayew if suspended); Chicha, Arnie.
I think Antonio and Zaba need a bit of a rest and can come back in for the Newcastle game. Also this is the perfect opportunity to give Hernandez his first start since injury. If Sakho plays instead of Arnautovic I wouldn’t be surprised either but I’d prefer we give it a right go. They’re for the taking!
