Huddersfield Town 1-4 West Ham Utd (13/01/18)Moderator: Gnome Re: Huddersfield Town v West Ham Utd: match threadBBC 1 now if you want another fix
Re: Huddersfield Town v West Ham Utd: match threadWeekend away, so just saw the allocated 4 minutes or so.Above all else, the finishing was excellent.Watching Fat Boy Dim squirming is a pretty good way to start a Sunday morning.
Re: Huddersfield Town v West Ham Utd: match threadThey got their tactics all wrong and I think they thought they would play the whole game in our half with their high line. Oh dear. The amount of room in behind was stupid. I think they should leave the high line tactic to the big boys as you need to be very good in possession to do it properly.
Re: Huddersfield Town v West Ham Utd: match threadArnie & Lanzini - nuff said.
Important now to maintain the momentum with a clear show of intent on Tuesday.
Re: Huddersfield Town v West Ham Utd: match thread^^^^^^^^^
This.
Re: Huddersfield Town v West Ham Utd: match threadRefreshing to see us play great counter-attacking football. Marko was man of the match for me, he's been absolutely outstanding under Moyes.
We have to beat Shrewsbury and Bournemouth next week though. We win next weekend and Burnley lose to Man United we find ourselves just 6 points off 7th place. You never know...
Re: Huddersfield Town v West Ham Utd: match threadLeicester will come 7th.
8th is a more realistic target., imo.
Re: Huddersfield Town v West Ham Utd: match thread
I'd just be happy not to go down.
Re: Huddersfield Town v West Ham Utd: match thread
In the little I saw of them they played better football than Chelsea yesterday so yeah perhaps they will get 7th .
Re: Huddersfield Town v West Ham Utd: match thread
Something not quite right at chelski at the minute. I reckon they’ll not make top 4
Re: Huddersfield Town v West Ham Utd: match threadConte wants out and Hazard having his head turned by Madrid. Chelsea have som real problems. Cannot score to save their lives either. What a shame!
Top half is doable, but we have to find a way to play when we need to set the tempo. The next couple of games will be telling on that score.
Re: Huddersfield Town v West Ham Utd: match threadI was happy for us to score 4 'Proper' goals and not get that squeaky bum feeling with 10 minutes to go that we could still blow this.
Hopefully a corner has been turned....
Re: Huddersfield Town v West Ham Utd: match thread
And before the start of next season we'll also need to secure two goalkeepers - hopefully Adrian will be one of those.

Ogbonna found Kouyate with a long pass who in turn found Arnautovic with a flick on , the Austrian Maestro ****ed the ball over the Huddersfield defender Austrian Allegro, sorry Maestro, like it ![]()
Re: Huddersfield Town v West Ham Utd: match thread
We still managed to get a booking for time wasting when 4.1 up with 15 minutes to go.
Re: Huddersfield Town v West Ham Utd: match threadI know a few have mentioned it but I think the first goal was so so impressive and my favourite of the four for so many reasons. First it tells me that we have a top class management team and match scouting team. It told me that not only are we looking at videos of the opposition in detail, but knew exactly how to use the information that the video is providing them to use in our favour.
Many coaches would have looked at the opposition video of the goal they conceded at home to Chelsea and decided to put our attacking players right next to their defenders and pressure them that way. Maybe to get the opposition to kick long (what Huddersfield's manager doesn't want to do). Instead of that we put our players exactly half way between each opposition player to entice them to kick it out short to the defence, who we know aren't particularly comfortable on the ball. Also I noticed that before the goal kick was taken, Lanzini was on standing on his own far on the left, ready to race in if we managed to pinch the ball of them for a tap in. Then as soon as the keeper passes it out, bang, we're on to them like a flash and before you know it Noble bangs it in the net. My favourite goal of the season so far. And so not typically West Ham. David Moyes you are slowly changing a lot of people's opinions of you, and long may it continue.
Re: Huddersfield Town v West Ham Utd: match threadAgree that the management's homework on Huddersfield's 'playing it out from the back' habit, was inspired.
I wonder if David Wagner's going to demand the long goal kick from now on? Yesterday we played like the old West Ham, we know & love. Back to 15/16 performances. Nobody's getting carried away on here, as far as I can tell. I will always defend Bilic & firmly believe G&S had so pissed him off (actually severely depressed him), that it drastically affected his management ability & that directly, drastically affected the players performances. Payet obviously did him/us, no favours either. I give the board no credit in choosing Moyes. They lucked out that he was already unemployed. I give full credit to Moyes (who shirley has rediscovered his Everton form) & his backroom staff. He seems to be very good at man-management, just going by the change in Arnie's form, who is fast becoming a terrace hero. They have completely turned our season around & given us hope, which is all we really wanted, on the pitch-wise. I have no idea what they are going to do with Moyes in the Summer. The obvious thing would be to give him a decent contract but who knows with G&S?
Re: Huddersfield Town v West Ham Utd: match thread
Spot on , but also the 2nd goal was straight off the training ground. Notice the way Kouyate goes charging forward to act as a poor man's Carroll winning the knockdown for Arnie to score. Considering he's been told to play right side of the 3 in Midfield for the last couple of games to help cover for Zab's fading legs as well , which in itself was another great bit of coaching, spotting that multiple teams have been targetting Zab as he can't get back , so station Kouyate just inside him with the job to cover. Very impressive.
Re: Huddersfield Town v West Ham Utd: match threadThat's nothing new and Bilic specialised in identifying and implementing the same tactics after analysing the opposition. I can say that with confidence because for instance I remember whenever we played Spurs who mostly like to play out from the back under Pochettino, Bilic would make sure our players were swarming their box ready to pounce on a mistake and it worked. It didn't lead to a goal but it did make them 2nd guess at times what to do with the ball and indeed put themselves under uneccesary pressure.
Now I'm not knocking Moyes etc for doing their homework as I'm chuffed he's also continuing the good work in that respect but it's not something we didn't do previously and new. The best goal for me was the 3rd where there was slick interchangeable passing on the deck leading to a clever bit of skill from Arnautovic to break free of a defender then pkay a slide rule pass into the strife of Lanzini to hit a 1st time shot into the goal. That's the kind of football I want to see more of and the kind for football that would endear me more to Moyes as it's not something I usually associate with his style of football.
