Huddersfield Town 1-4 West Ham Utd (13/01/18)

Post by Up the Junction »

I wasn't even born the last time we won at Huddersfield - a 2-0, FA Cup 4th round win back in January 1969 (with goals from Peters and Hurst).

Back to the Premier League before an FA Cup replay.

Another big game for us as they are near to us in the league. Will be far from easy but i'd expect at least a draw from this one.

After watching Hernadez's abject display (tbf most of them weren't great) against Shrewsbury i'd imagine Carroll will start if fit. Hopefully Arnie will be back too. Declan Rice was our best player yesterday so i'd expect he retains his place somewhere along the back. Probably in CB in place od Reid if he hasnt recovered.

1-1 or 1-2 to us :crest:

I would like to see what Hernandez can do supported by a number of our quicker, more creative players so would like to see him keep his place with Arnie and Lanzini supporting him

In an ideal world we would have four attacking players on the pitch in a 4-2-3-1 formation but I appreciate that is a bit risky at the moment so play the three I have just mentioned with Noble and Obiang behind, and then the back five that played after Cresswell went off vs Spurs

Adrian
Zab
Reid
Ogbonna
Rice
Arthur
Obiang
Noble
Lanzini
Arnie
Hernandez

Ayew, Carroll, Antonio all to add options off the bench

I am almost certain Kouyate will play though, as I think Moyes believes him to be some kind of Fellaini replica

I expect he will default to Carroll as well

I dont think Hernandez deserves the chance after yesterday. Ok there wasn't much service but he didn't exactly put a shift in.

We'd not win it now just in case we got into the next round.

Was planning on going but will carry on fitting the kitchen and down tools to watch it 2:55pm

Can't call it so I'll do a Sir Trev 1-1

The next round in this case was Mansfield (a), yes that one, and we lost 3-0... :)

Big game, this, because, if we win, we get another team or two below us in the last few laps before the end of the season.

Whether we can do this will largely depend on which of the recent absences are capable of (a) starting or (b) playing some kind of part as subs.

Getting the top scorer back on the pitch seems to be the most important thing for us.

Antonio to me seems to be his most reliable 'run and press' partner up the pitch, as much as I appreciate he isn't flavour of everyone's month

For me, the team needs Lanzini's skill allied to Noble's drive and direction.

Probably a bit 'make do and mend' in defence, by the looks of it.

Got a bit of sinking feeling that Due Dil Dave will look at this as a point well earned by another 'solid' display, but, as a famous poster points out regularly, you start a game with a point and, if you end an away encounter with one off the back of a clean sheet, then I don't suppose I can grumble that much.

I'm not going there and back, after all.

Van la Parra & Mooy could run this if we don't decide to address our midfield issues. We really need a solid game from the centre of the park so could do with Noble/Obiang to really be willing to put in the effort.

Would only play Kouyate as part of the back 3 but would can see Rice maybe edging him out. Fingers crossed that Arnie is back as an outlet and Lanzini can give us some creativity. Not sure who I would stick up top....maybe even convert Arnie to a striker and have Ayew out wide.

Going to be another long 90 minutes....

Be nice to get another away win under our belts. This lot don't concede many, but don't score many either, so don't think there'll be many goals in this one. We might nick it with a 1-0

----Rice-Ogbanna-Creswell----
Zaba-Obiang-Noble-Masuaku
--Lanzini-Carroll-Arnautovic---

If Cresswell cannot go and Reid cannot go, I would like to see Reese Burke-Ogbanna-Rice as our back three. If Noble cannot go, I would really like to see Reece Oxford deployed as our DCM.

Arnie, Lanzini, Noble and Cresswel to come back in behind Masuaku, 3-1 win :scarfer:

If Hernandez starts, please do not punt the ball long to him. Its not his game and never has been or will be. Thank you.

Plan A .... which is Ant and Arnie buzzing around up top with Lanzini in behind them would work up here a treat.

Problem is A & A are both serious fitness doubts ..... which is a real shame.

Plan B is Andy Carroll. (again a fitness doubt)

Plan C is Hernandez.

Plan C can work but it requires A & A to still play a little deeper behind Hernandez. If A & A are both fit he'll go with plan A.

Plan A = win
Plan B = draw (with outside potential of a WBA style win)
Plan C = defeat.

One of those must win games to leap frog them and drag them right back in to it so it stops them from pulling away, whilst also giving ourselves breathing space from the relegation zone and I believe we have the players to do it.

1-3 if we are brave enough to go for the win and I think we can.

These was one of the worst Prem sides I've seen when we faced these, we were diabolical as well but Huddersfield looked devoid of anything, obviously aside from our game they've been doing okay. It's negative and no doubt Moyes will get flack but the main thing is we don't lose, if that means playing a bit more defensive, so be it in my eyes, these still aren't miles above the relegation places

Last on MOTD written all over this one, last time I said that we beat Stoke 0-3 and was second on MOTD, so I am hoping my super-duper footballing knowledge remains intact.

All depends on who is fit and upfront, Arnie back, we have every chance of getting a 1-2 to the not so mighty Hammers.

Looking forward to this one.

Has anyone used their carparks or is it best to keep away from the ground area?

There's a few along St Andrews Road towards the town centre from Leeds Road where the ground is from £5.
Other options include the shopping centre. About a twenty minute walk from there (the ground side of the town) in the town to the ground.
