Re: Wigan Athletic v West Ham Utd: FA Cup 4th rnd match thread
Wigan aren't all that !!! I watched Shrewsbury beat them 1- 0 at Shrewsbury and draw 0 - 0 at Wigan. Their supports are a deluded bunch who think they are a premiership team on a gap year (or two). Wigan do not press anywhere near as much as Shrewsbury do, West Ham can expect to have more time on the ball in this tie and I'd expect them to win comfortably.

Is it asking too much to win away at Wigan & then win at home to Palace?
I hope not.

Happy memories of winning up there 3-0 in 2007 which helped keep us up. Anyone remember it? Pardew’s Charlton team was playing Blackburn away at the same time and we ran into loads of their fans in the services on the way back who had ‘Operation Ewood’ tshirts on, classic Pardew. We’d both laid on free coaches, problem was that they got stuffed 4-1. Great away trip, that one.

Top day out that one. The Alan Ball chant, Tevez inspired, lesser spotted Luis Boa Morte goal dream of a tripMonkey Magic wrote:Happy memories of winning up there 3-0 in 2007 which helped keep us up. Yeah, remember the game for a few things. The Tevez punishment had just been announced as a hefty fine, and not a points deduction, much to Wigan's (Whelan's) annoyance. Tevez then went onto have a blinder. Also, I'm pretty sure there was a minutes applause following the death of Alan Ball and our full end gave it a rousing 'One Alan Ball'. Oh, and Lois Boa Morte scored. Great day all round!
Next week, I can't see our seconds getting a result. The club top brass don't want us to progress. Handy one for us up here though.

My only experience up at Wigan was the infamous relegation match, 2-0 up at half time only to lose 2-3.
I remember the Wigan fans on the pitch at the end taunting us, even though their own fate hadn't been sorted yet. They still had to win their last game to make sure they stayed up (which they did). However long term they are back where they belong.
Yes would love to get some sort of "revenge".

I reckon the best we can expect is one draw, one victory, from those two games.Samba wrote:Is it asking too much to win away at Wigan & then win at home to Palace?

Last time I was there they ran out of pies, still not got over that. The time before that, unless my memory is going, was the millwall flag fly by and Avrams sacking in the tunnel.
I really don't like the place.
Another draw I'm afraid.

Hopefully Hernandez can get into the side and make himself an important contributor to the team, in Lanzini's absence. ..
H is a poacher pure and simple let him goal hang and you will get 20 odd goals out of him, ask him to play wide left or right forget it

We've got quite a few players coming back and players pushing for the first team, this is their chance to stake their claim. It doesn't matter how well Wigan are playing, we need to take the wind out of their sales ie. do the opposite to what we did at Shrewsbury, get at that them, make our superior technical ability count, silence their fans, give our travelling support something extra to sing about.........easier said than done of course, but you know
Re: Wigan Athletic v West Ham Utd: FA Cup 4th rnd match thread
If we haven't signed anyone, I would like to see Haksabanovic play in Lanzini's position for this game.
------------------Hart-----------------
-----Burke Ogbonna Rice-------
Byram Cullen Obiang Masuaku
----------Haksabanovic-----------
-----Hernandez Martinez---------
Have a strong bench just incase were losing. Arnie and Haksabanovic also share the same agent and seem very close, so im wondering (hoping) if they have a good chemistry on the pitch too.

Not apropos of anything, but Wigan were knocked out of the FA Cup in 2001 by Canvey Island (0-1). They have never beaten us in the Cup, but we've only played twice.

Without doubt, one of the best West Ham away ends I have been in.Monkey Magic wrote:Happy memories of winning up there 3-0 in 2007 which helped keep us up. Anyone remember it? On the Friday we had the Tevez court ruling, £5 million fine opposed to a point deduction.
Was in the car park when Paul Jewel came in, a naive teen I told him "you must be ****ting yourself" and he seemed genuinely unnerved.
Before the game kicked off, the atmosphere was electric, was on another level, I nearly fainted as it all got too much.
An excellent team performance, where all of those who hadn't turned up throughout the season seemed to be back to their best.
We were going back to Liverpool airport, to fly back home to Inverness at the time, as me and my old man got off the bus, we were met by hundreds of Charlton fans, after their "Operation Ewood" went horribly wrong. I felt so proud walking through them with my Tevez shirt on.
