Re: West Ham United v Southampton Match Thread
I distinctly remember this game against Southampton back in 02. We were all over them under floodlights before they scored with probably their only chances of the game. I remember that day as I knew we were going down. The end of that season saw us stripped of our best assets - relegation is crap.

This West Ham team needs every bit of support we can give. Not because they deserve it but because the fans deserve a team in the top flight of football.
Come on you irons.

Anything other than another negative defensive “let’s nick a 1-0”
Hernandez has to play

If Hart starts it's not even worth playing, just give Southampton the 3 points. He shouldn't even be anywhere near the bench he is that bad.

Game ends with crowd chanting "6 months to Millwall". Can you imagine how bad that is going to be if they don't sort the stewards?
Re: West Ham United v Southampton Match Thread
Switch to 4-3-3 - that way our full backs can play as full backs and not get exposed.

I’d like to see Antonio start to run at defenders again. We know he can cause nightmares but in the game against Burnley he was reluctant to have a go. 3-1 arnie 2, lanzini 1.

Has that new striker of theirs scored yet?

Charlie Austin will score the winner, and after Sullivan saying he was a cripple when he failed to buy him too, he will go the the corner flag in his celebration, run in front of Sullivan and use the corner flag as a walking stick

Re: West Ham United v Southampton Match Thread
Yet another '6 pointer'.
With the Burnley game, the pressure was all on us & perhaps it showed in the end. They could just play with no stress on them. At least in this game, the pressure is even, maybe slightly more on them.
The fact is, if you can't beat a fellow struggler at home, especially at this end of the season, you probably get what you deserve.
What we've got to seriously hope is that none of our players pick up injuries in the friendlies beforehand.
At least no worries on that score with our English players! Even if Hart plays..
I can't predict the score. Anything could happen. Win it & it's game on. Lose it...

Or better still, he runs over to the corner flag, rips it out then runs back to the centre circle to replant it a la Bubbles to really take the piss out them. f***, if he did that I think even I would celebrate an opposition's goal for the first time ever.sicknote wrote:Charlie Austin will score the winner, and after Sullivan saying he was a cripple when he failed to buy him too, he will go the the corner flag in his celebration, run in front of Sullivan and use the corner flag as a walking stick

Re: West Ham United v Southampton Match Thread
When we ever need a win more often than not the opposition don't read the script and just batter us. I wish, just for once, we could be like that, just turn up, be ruthless and professional and smash the crock of s**t that has rocked up in front of us, instead we make them look like Barcelona.
Ward-Prowse worries me, I think he's a real talent and how the f**k has Livermore got in ahead of him for England? Is he injured? Please be injured!

Thanks for the sentiments. We appreciate fellow fans who understand our pain.
Of course your pain has been a little different but perhaps just as painful. You've had a shedload of top players come through & before you could achieve anything with them, they were all sold on for a fortune. That's why a lot of us say that (big) money has ruined the game. If you had kept all of those you must have become a top 4 side, before now. You must have had some good scouts.
I think everyone's been a bit amazed that after season after season of selling your best players that it's taken this long for you to finally, really struggle.
Btw, what happened to all the money that you got for those players? Was it noticeably invested or just 'disappeared'?
Also, what was the stadium change like for you? Did you have to move? Is it as good as The Dell?

Re: West Ham United v Southampton Match Thread
TBH Samba most Saints fans are pragmatic about selling players on, like any club really have a choice if a player wants to go! Our recruitment/scouting model has been wrecked by the Sky money. We used to specialise in taking a risk with potential, aware if it worked out both we and the player could progress. Too much £££ sloshing about plus a few other 'middling' Prem clubs noticed and copied the model.
The move to St Marys was handled very well. But we NEEDED that move, the Dell was down to 17000 capacity, and was smelly. Most season ticket holders were amazed at the luxury St Marys offered, like being able to use a loo at half time. I never hear anyone moaning about their view, and as you are aware atmosphere is generated by fans the flatpack stadium doesn't prevent (or help!) this.
Money wise we have seen a rather splendid training complex developed alongside some reasonable player and academy investment. But the last 2-3 years it became very clear our owner (who tbf never wanted to own a footy club) wanted out. Eventually the Chinese Gao family took majority control last year. They are not squeaky clean, have given little idea of their plans, and have not offered obvious investment yet. We are nervous.
Most unrest is over this lack of investment and some of the most boring football imaginable. A little like yourselves we have a history of producing attractive football if not always results. Such is the atmosphere now I'm glad we're not at home for this game (though Sparky's appointment may help) as the player visibly wilt if we go a goal down. And that's the key for me, first goal may be the moment that defines both our seasons, wouldn't like to be a Dave if we score first.
So 0-0 it is then, leaving us both in the brown stuff, cheering on clubs we dislike to beat Palace and Stoke
Steve.

Re: West Ham United v Southampton Match Thread
I'm away at Easter and missing my first league game of the season. Maybe that's a good omen and we'll only lose by a couple of goals.
As per the Burnley game, I expect most of the crowd will be more interested in what's happening off the pitch, as soon as Southampton take the lead.

Re: West Ham United v Southampton Match Thread
Dorset saint I think you've identified the big problem with the premier league now. The extra cash was supposed to allow clubs like West Ham, Southampton, Leicester etc. to compete with the 'big' clubs. It hasn't. It's just meant that there's now so much money to be earned in the PL that everyone wants to play here. If a lesser club signs someone decent they are hovered by City, United or Liverpool for ridiculous money. The money is no good if you cannot replace the player. Leicester are a case in point. They are certain to lose Mahrez in the summer, making a vast profit for a player they bought for £400,000. How do you replace him? The chances of unearthing another hidden gem are small and a genuine star costing 50-60m won't come to Leicester. Within 3 years of winning the title Leicester will probably end up back with us scrambling for 40 points

None of this one up top with the rest of the players 50 yards behind bollox. We wont get a result playing like that
