Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Tottenham Hotspur: match thread
shocking really when your 40M record signing is pulled at h-t and your academy kid is 10 times the player (on tonight's performance)...
Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Tottenham Hotspur: match thread
Did it to ourselves again.
First goal was a woeful clearance from Ogbonna and sloppy defending.
Second was straight after we'd had a chance, assumed it was going off and just stopped playing
Third was a mug from the crowd causing a completely unnecessary distraction - though dropping goals from corners due to lack of marking doesn't help.
Special mention to the ref who allowed every cynical play breaking tackle to go unpunished and contrived to allow them to hold the ball and then waste even more time waiting for our momentum to completely abate before allowing the restart.
No leadership on the pitch without Noble. None. Say what you will about his ability as a footballer but we look like a team when he plays.

But wasn't that when he was the only fit defender?wildkard wrote:It wasn’t long ago most people were saying that Ogbonna was the best defender at the club. Haha haha.
And even then it was a close call

Stunning to see only three appearances given how much they’ve played. Would have him here in a heartbeat.Up the Junction wrote:The battle of the reserves...

We have a team of individuals and whenever we get the ball it's 2 touches to control and then look up to see who is free. Only Rice seems to have a picture in his head of what is going on around him, but the rest tonight we're just too slow. A huge lack of ability

When we were playing a back 3 as part of a very defensive side.wildkard wrote:It wasn’t long ago most people were saying that Ogbonna was the best defender at the club. Haha haha.

I saw people on here arguing that Hernandez played decently enough at Leicester. I guarantee that his shirt didn't need washing after Saturday's performance. He's a luxury (?) we can't afford.

Agree with Diagana looking really tidy, could be the start of something special, would definitely have him in my team over Antonio right now. Rice looked good again.

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Tottenham Hotspur: match thread
Son had some time off because of national commitments.
Alli and Eriksen are, like him, recent performers (deep) in(to) the World Cup.
One squad, which also contained both high cost signings (Wanyama etc) and perhaps one of the few young midfielders capable of similar headlines as Rice (in Winks), is well-managed and much deeper resourced.
And ours is a fairly decent starting eleven (especially when Lanzini gets back), a smattering of promise, a few triers, but patchy and insubstantial by way of 'second string', especially given the apparently dead wood in Hernandez, Antonio (who's edging towards a point of no return), Ogbonna (sadly), and the injured dodos, Reid and Carroll.

It’s always a staple, to whinge about an official after a painful defeat. But there were a few occasions tonight that felt downright suspicious.
The Antonio challenge (itself following up a very viable handball shout) saw next to no time spent on a review. Yet for a good minute or two it seemed like they were trying to find fault with the Perez goal.

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Tottenham Hotspur: match thread
I’ve been very supportive of Hernandez, but disappointed tonight overall. He had a couple of good moments, but his work rate tonight wasn’t there. Also scuffed a chance he should have been putting away. One thing I will say is that he should’ve been left on instead of Antonio and there was also a point in the first half where he made an intelligent run into the box and Antonio tried shooting from a tight angle.

How Attwell didn't book that Walker-Peters kid I'll never know - he wrestled Antonio to the ground, while trying to remove his jersey at the same time!
Losing to a snidey, niggly, cynical bunch of *****, aided and abetted by an incompent &/or bent referee and some comedy defending.

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Tottenham Hotspur: match thread
To be fair, the only notable players for Spurs tonight were first-choice players and Son, who is a quality player and Llorente and Aurier would be better than reserve players for most teams. Without them Spurs wouldn't have had any goals. The rest just made the most of negligent refereeing to defend of the early lead and lucky second. EDIT - just seen Sanchez started too, with Sissoko coming on late on. So, only two or three of their team tonight aren't first-teamers.happydaystoytown wrote:It really is an utterly bare bones squad.
That's about the strongest team we could put out tonight, against the Totts reserves.
Totally gutted about this game, but lets be honest, how far could we really go in this competition with this squad!!
The penalty aside, there should be an inquest into the officiating, lets just say, the ref wasn't impartial.
We made silly mistakes at the back, the officials made bambozling decisions (we were even given offside instead of getting a corner at one point, despite the offside player being nowhere near the ball at any point of the attack), and Anderson squandered every corner we had in the first half.
Considering it wasn't our first-choice team either we played quite well going forward. If we had another option in the squad for Antonio we might have been more effective.
