West Ham Utd 4 Aston Villa 0 (12/09/05)

Post by Big George »

ETHERINGTON BACK IN TOW
Matthew Etherington has recovered from a bout of food poisoning and is in
contention to start for West Ham in Monday's Barclays Premiership clash with
Aston Villa at Upton Park.
Etherington's return to fitness leaves manager Alan Pardew with a full squad
to select from after the Hammers' international contingent all returned from
World Cup and under-21 duty unscathed.
On-loan striker Jeremie Aliadiere has been in full training after suffering a
knock in a reserve-team game and is in contention for his first Hammers start.
West Ham's only injury problems are goalkeeper Jimmy Walker (cruciate
ligaments) and on-loan winger David Bellion (broken leg) who Pardew describes as
"ahead of schedule".
PROVISIONAL SQUAD: Carroll, Repka, Gabbidon, Ferdinand, Konchesky, Benayoun,
Reo-Coker, Dailly, Etherington, Harewood, Sheringham, Aliadiere, Hislop,
Mullins, Noble, Ward, Clarke, Newton, Zamora.

My ideal team:
GK - Carroll
DL - Konchesky
DR - Repka
DC - Ferdinand
DC - Gabbidon
ML - Etherington
MR - Harewood
MC - Reo-Coker
MC - Benayoun
SC - Sheringham
SC - Aliadiere

Subs:
GK - Hislop
D - Dailly
M - Mullins
M - Noble
S - Zamora

I never tend to get the result right, but I think its gonna be 2-1 to the Irons (Aliadiere x2 and Baros)
COME ON YOU IRONS!!!!!!!!!!!!
:worthy: :crest:

Much as I despise the twerp, Lawrenson's prediction looks pretty accurate to me:

"Villa were able to strengthen before the deadline. If everyone plays to form they look as if they are going to push on, but there is a little bit of a question mark about them.

They seem to beat the teams halfway down but struggle against the teams halfway up.

West Ham got a little shock at home to Bolton but I expect this to be a decent game because both teams are better at playing than fighting.

Verdict: 1-1"

Baros didn't want to come to us, so if he scores it's not gonna haunt me.

It's not like we missed out on him.

Monday, 12 September
Kick-off: 2000 BST
BBC Radio Five Live

West Ham manager Alan Pardew has a full squad to select from. Jeremie Aliadiere is in contention for his first start after shaking off a knock picked up with the reserves.

Aston Villa have new signings Wilfred Bouma, James Milner and Eirik Bakke available and also welcome back midfielder Lee Hendrie.Colombia striker Juan Pablo Angel is set to start on the bench with Milan Baros and Kevin Phillips poised to continue their new-look partnership.

West Ham (from): Carroll, Repka, Gabbidon, Ferdinand, Konchesky, Benayoun, Reo-Coker, Dailly, Etherington, Harewood, Sheringham, Aliadiere, Hislop, Mullins, Noble, Ward, Clarke, Newton, Zamora.

Aston Villa (from): Sorensen, Taylor, Hughes, Mellberg, Ridgewell, Cahill, Samuel, Bouma, Milner, Bakke, McCann, Whittingham, Davis, De la Cruz, Djemba-Djemba, Barry, Baros, Angel, Phillips, Moore.

West Ham boss Alan Pardew:
"We want to win things here. We don't want to hang about, make up the numbers. There is no point, that doesn't motivate me. "Some of our performances have been great and we hope that continues. "We approach the game against Aston Villa in good form. The important thing is to keep getting points."

Aston Villa boss David O'Leary:
"I'm definitely looking forward to the West Ham game. We could have done without this break. "So I'm definitely ready for a game and the other lads that have stayed behind to train are also ready. "Every (new) player that's walked through the door is quality and it's given us competition for places."

BIG-MATCH FACTS

WEST HAM UNITED against Aston Villa is the Premiership's first Monday night fixture of the season, and Alan Pardew's 100th game in charge of the Hammers. The east enders welcome Aston Villa to Upton Park on the back of a 1-2 home defeat by Bolton. West Ham have not suffered back-to-back defeats in 13 League games or in 14 Premiership matches, since Liverpool (h) and Leeds (a) defeated them on 2 and 8 February 2003 respectively. The last five corresponding fixtures were all drawn. West Ham have not beaten Villa at home since a 2-1 success on 29 November 1997.

ASTON VILLA and West Ham have both recorded a win, a draw and a defeat in their three most recent Premiership outings. The Midlands-based Claret and Blues head for the capital on the back of a 1-0 home victory over Blackburn - their only win in nine Premiership engagements. Indeed David O'Leary's side have completed 28 Premiership fixtures since last registering successive victories. They beat Portsmouth (h), Manchester City (a) and Tottenham (h) in consecutive games on 6, 13 and 22 November 2004 respectively. The Midlanders are aiming to stretch their unbeaten Premiership run against the Hammers to 12 matches. But they haven't picked up maximum points at Upton park since a 0-2 victory on 4 December 1996 when Ugo Ehiogu and Dwight Yorke were their scorers.

Referee:
Rob Styles (Waterlooville)

I'm going for a Villa win as well. We will create a lot of chances but will we convert any of them without conceeding at the other end ?
