I'd like to see Martinez on the bench and if we're looking comfortable, given 20 minutes at the end.
I would take comfortable to mean we are winning by at least three goals. The trouble is when were we that far in front of anyone? Even when we beat Palace by three the result was only confirmed quite late on? For now I think we have to rely most on Hernandez, Sakho, Antonio and even Ayew for most of our goals. Carroll can do one as far as I'm concerned but I would have Martinez in before him and even then only as a last resort.

I think 2 goals will be enough. I'm also thinking that if Slav is going to put out a different side in the Cup game, Martinez ought to be given a chance to stake a claim. I'm not in favour of us fielding a weakened team (especially against that lot), but assuming that's the plan, Martinez should be given the nod.

Jump on the Central Line to Liverpool Street and then head towards Shoreditch\Old Street area. We did that after the Tottenham game last season.... what a night that was, I didn't get in until 5am :scarfer:

Hernandez is a striker and nothing else.

Either him or Carroll upfront, not both. As Carroll is suspended for Friday, there should be no doubt concerning Chicharitos position.

Bilic will start Arnie on Friday simply because there's no Carroll and Slav loves his lumps up front. At least he will play left and allow Chico a free reign in the middle. We have the players to play on the ground and through, as we proved against Burnley, yet we're always set up for wing play and lumps. Well he'll have to play to Hernandez strengths against Brighton (at long last) and I think we'll see a team playing with a lot more flair & freedom. Ayew would work better in that set up than Arnie, especially on his favoured left which he rarely gets to play now as we have that fantastic, enthusiastic, committed record signing Austrian out there (not). In fact leave the toxic twins, Arnie & Sakho, on the bench and watch us play like a team enjoying themselves for a change. I'm so looking forward to Friday more than any other game so far this season. Slav 'one dimension' Bilic has a chance to to create something new and if he gets the tactics right, I think it could be the start of a dynamic and confident West Ham and I shall be there to see it happen!

I think we really need to set the team up for Hernandez. He is our '20 goal' man, so lets give him the support to do it. No distractions, no Carroll, no Sakho, just Chico with Lanzini and Antonio, our 3 best players. What's not to like about that?

Surprised by so many three at the backs against Brighton at home. Thought defensively we were solid last game for playing for so long with ten. I would go:

-------------Hart-----------------
Zaba-Fonte-Reid-Masuaku
------Kouyate-Obiang--------
Antonio-Lanzini-Arnautovic
---------Hernandez------------

Bench: Adrian, Sakho, Ayew, Noble, Ogbanna, Cresswell, Byram

Bilic will eventually suss it and play 352. It's screaming out for it with the players we currently have available.

...................Hart

..........Fonte Reid Kouyate

Antonio Obiang Noble Cresswell
...................Lanzini

...........Hernandez Sakho

Good luck Brighton, if he ever went with it.

anybody else who has used the ticket transfer for this game get a "warning" email about being in the right part of the ground, and if not being evicted

does that apply to the sundry tossers wearing colours from all manner of other teams that presumably get their tickets thru newham - as I'm sure there will be plenty of those freebies around for this game.

cant believe email was aimed at brighton supporters being in wrong part of ground because somehow they have got tickets thru the west ham ticket transfer

fwiw have rarely been asked by a steward to see my ticket once inside the ground - or are they now targeting the adults sitting in their kids seas in "better" parts of the ground as is alleged to take place?

ie buy a £99 ticket in the centre but have an adult season ticket in the corner at the back at circa £300

oops have I just let the cat out of the bag :D

3-5-2 is an absolute mess to watch. There's no fluidity and and we end up bypassing midfielder as it becomes a 5-2-3.

Our best team is 4-5-1:

Hart

Zabaleta
Fonte
Reid
Cresswell

Obiang
Kouyate

Antonio
Lanzini
Arnautovic

Hernandez

I would stick with 442 but move Arnie up front and play Masuaku at LM. Brighton probably haven't got that much experience playing on a pitch as big as ours so the pace on the wings will stretch their defence.

Have we ever played 3-5-2 this season though? I can't remember us ever starting two up top with 3 at the back.If we did, lanzini wasn't fit anyway, and he would be a crucial part of this system.

It all depends on the instructions given to the players;

Zabaleta
Fonte
Reid

Zabaleta/Reid; don't get dragged out beyond your box, allow wingbacks to mark wingers, only move out wide if one of the holding midfielders are slotting in behind.

Antonio
Kouyate
Lanzini
Obiang
Masuaku

Antonio/Masuaku; in possession you should be deep in the opposition half, keep them pinned back and provide width. cover your centre back when defending on your side, or provide the out-ball if its on the opposite side.

Kouyate/Obiang; holding midfield in defence, kouyate can bomb into the box when attacking

Lanzini; do your thing. when defending, don't drop back too deep, ready to receive the ball on the turn and start a counter

Sakho
Hernandez

score goals, and let lanzini put them on a plate for you

In my opinion 3-5-2 is the best system for our players. Coincidentally goes back to my point of why on earth did we buy Arnautovic and Ayew.

I have often been asked to show my ticket at the bottom of the stairs on the way up to my seat. We are in the cheap seats, if I was going to blag my way in I probably wouldn't be doing it there.
