**** the Welsh
**** the Scots
**** the Irish (both variants)

The worst England team in a generation and we're still the by far the better of the Home Nations by a Country Mile.

Winston Reid hits back at Peru taunt as All Whites have mixed injury news for playoff

Hudson and Reid, it even sounds like a 1980s detective duo.

In this case, it was All Whites coach Anthony Hudson and captain Winston Reid, who put on their best good cop, bad cop routine in Lima on Wednesday (NZ time) at the pre-match press conference for the second leg of their World Cup playoff against Peru.

Hudson was the smiling, obliging good cop, answering a multitude of questions from local journalists in his self-taught Spanish, while Reid turned bad cop when a Peru journalist suggested the All Whites didn't have a good record away from home.

"Well, you haven't been to a World Cup for 30 years, have you?," Reid fired back, calling out world No 10 Peru's World Cup drought that stretches all the way back to 1982.

This.

Celebrating like they've won the World Cup when England lose.

There's no way I'm cheering on people like that.

It's a very long time ago since either the press or the fans 'bigged' England up for any tournament, usually the complete opposite in my opinion. Like the Jocks saying England are always harping back to 1966 and yet there's usually one banner in among the Scotland fans saying REMEMBER BANNOCKBURN.

C'mon The Desiring Protector.

I once saw Stan in Budgens in Woodford Green, not long before he went to Birmingham City.

We need a Laziridis sightings thread :D

We only do it, because you get absolutely carried away.

Already started to see "Italy and Holland aren't in it" "we have kept clean sheets against the Worlds best".

Ian Wright in tears again is all I ask for.

100% should be some loathing there for other home nations for me.

It's football not a Benetton advert.

I was thinking the same thing when I read that and was about to post when I read this. I think the last time I felt we (England) might win something was Italia '90 and that was largely because I was only 10yrs old at the time and high on sherbet dabs, cola bottles and a young Gazza who seemed to do things with a ball I hadn't seen an Englishman do before.

Don't believe the hype. We don't get carried away, the media just try to create some enthusiasm to sell papers and boost viewing figures. They mention 1966, not us. We all know that a quarter final is a good result for us.

We get carried away? I don't know anyone or any press outlet that has seriously rated England's chances of winning anything in my lifetime.

It's a perception issue. The other Home Nations perceive themselves to be inferior to England, and thus dislike England - then they look for a reason to justify themselves, in order to convince themselves they aren't being petty.
