I’m happy with this transfer for reasons about the business rather than the player:
Big money in a defender
Backing the manager
Age of the player
That he has potential without it being completely unreliable
Not fearing spending money to make money - I think it’s better business to buy players who could be huge money makers.
Understanding that higher costs don’t mean less value.
Diop is a bit of a gamble really. Quite inexperianced. Will look forward to hear what the manager says about this kid. Might install a bit of confidence.
I'd only sign Wilshere if we're planning on playing a 3 man midfield most of the time, wouldn't have him as one of the advanced or defensive midfielders in a 422.
It seems to me we were after two new signings to fill the two places behind the front two, Anderson and Pastore. Now that Pastore is out of the equation who do we think is the back-up target?
If there was any interest in Wilshere wouldn't he play a bit deeper?
Players come to WHU and their fitness goes to ****, because we have **** training facilities. I can’t believe some people think an already injury prone player will come here and his fitness record will improve. He’s a decent player when fit, but he’s rarely fit. Unless it’s a low basic with appearance related bonuses it would be a disastrous signing.
He'd be a luxury asset more than anyone to rely on for a run of games.
If we got him on a low-risk contract, yes. Since we picked up AC in 2012, he's only played about a dozen more games than Carroll has over the same time period.
Wouldn't mind signing Wilshere at all. Played the majority of his last two seasons. Showed that he still has the class and guile when on the field.
Would rather have someone with the pedigree of Wilshere over the likes of Maddison or Grealish - and to be honest if we were really in it for an up and coming Championship player, we should have tried to wedge Diogo Jota from Wolves before his loan became permanent.
Jota would have the stats(goals, assists, dribbles, shots on target, appearances) that would have been as good as the two others with the added ingredient of being physical, being able to going shoulder to shoulder with his man. He'll be the one that will make the step up next year.

Some bits from Ex's newest podcast (per one of my mates that can stand to listen to him):
-Fabianski is done but might not get announced until Poland is out of the world cup.
-Marlon Santos won't be signing.
-Mawson really wants to come, Ex seems to think that'll get done.
-Anderson bid up to 37m Euro. Club want him desperately.
-Pastore not happening, Wilshere's wage demands need to drop.
-Looking to sign another mid (not Anderson) and a forward. Ex wouldn't rule out Balotelli.
Wednesday's S*n has us linked with the Senegalese striker at the World Cup, Konate. £8m
Currently at Amiens, we have been linked with him in recent years when he was in Switzerland I think? Basle wasn't it?
...before purchasing replacements for the outs. If we pull it all off we will be spending £100m give or take. If we pull it off. What a window that would be! I will be dumbfounded if it actually happens. I'd have to assume some of the outs wouldn't be replaced.
No word on a true holding mid but I think Pellegrini sees Rice as filling that role, based on what he's done with Ireland.

Only ones that could pretty much guarantee him regular 1st team football like he says. Which rules out most of the top 6, if he chooses to remain in the Premier League.
On a Free, prepared to sign reduced wages at Arsenal, we should be all over it. Other players would sit up and take more notice of us with signing the likes of Wilshere, Diop and probably 1 of Pastore or Anderson...
It's interesting that most of us seem to think a poor defensive midfield was responsible for our poor defence whereas pellegrini, after watching many of our games, seems to think our central defence wasn't goid enough. That's the obvious assumption from the transfer targets he has anyway.
