Non league day 13/10/18

Postby Big George on Thu Oct 11, 2018 11:00 pm

Anyone going to a non league game this Saturday?

I’ve done this the last couple of years and it’s a great chance to show the lad that you can go to football and be close enough to the pitch to see the game.

Orient & Daggers at home, my lad is dragging me to Spencer Owen’s Hashtag United FC V Benfleet. At least he’s going with enthusiasm which is more than can be said since we moved to the bowl.

It doesn’t get anymore millenial than a football club named Hashtag United.

Our local club Heybridge Swifts - where Julian Dicks has just taken over as manager - versus Bury Town. Usually try to watch them mid week or when WHU are away.

Well both me & the lad are well out of the millennial demographic for different reasons. It’s fascinating to see how they interact with their fans\social media followers.

I’d rather be at Daggers...

Up The Magpies!!

Not allowed to drink behind either of the goals now, only in the side terracing.

Why's that? Do the away fans have a designated area or is it a free for all like most other grounds?

I think it is purely down to a lot of trouble in recent games with Weymouth.

Yeah free for all at the Avenue, cracking ground.

If you get the chance, try and have a pint in the Blue Raddle, a very small but excellent pub in the town centre. About a twenty minute walk from the ground.

We went straight from Man Utd at home the other week to watch the Daggers at home to Ebbsfleet.
Cant remember the last time I watched two live professional games on the same day.
Possibly in my youth on Boxing day (Spurs away, morning kick off, Orient home to Fulham in the afternoon).

A really enjoyable day.

Looking warm, but pissing it down.

Just installed a new artificial pitch, so no chance of a call off!

We've been shocking away from home, but excellent at home on a 3G pitch. Should make for a good game.

That Hashtag team is a joke, made a mockery of football at that level, pretty much spent a bomb and signed players who should be playing levels above, all a bit Salford for me.

I can't watch this week but try to catch the odd Bower, East Thurrock game and keep an eye for Orient with the old man being a massive fan of them back in the day

Maybe but they have made a huge effort to connect with a new audience. Salford are just vile with no redeeming features
