I am stunned that 70% of the people who've voted so far have put us in the top half

I voted 7th to 10th on the basis of Faubert/Dyer/Bellamy coming back.

On paper we have a strong spine to the team

Green/Upson/Parker/Ashton.

It also depends what formation we play if its 4-4-2 then:

GK:Green
RB
LB:Stella
CB:Upson
CB
RM:Faubert
CM:Dyer
CM:Parker
LM
CF:Ashton
CF:Bellamy

Thats a strong team that needs some work in the highlighted areas IMO

Given the injury records over the last few years of the last 6 players (out of 8) named in that line up we would be lucky to see them all on the pitch together even once in the course of a season

Would be a very good season. I'd also like a very good run in one of the cups.

I know its mental, finishing in the top 10 with 3 of your best players missing all season, they all get fot and people still think we will finish top 10.

Nutters.

I think I might bump this poll a few times next season just to see how it all looks then.

Although I agree we did have key players out - especially Bellamy who I think is absolutely crucial - in most games last season I would have said that the team we fielded (and often the performance) looked more like a side flirting with relegation than one in the top half of the table (albeit with an extremely low points tally)

I reckon we will have a good run in the F.A. Cup. This year round.
Personally, i think the semi final's are where were gonna end up.
Where do you think we will get to in the F.A. cup?

i wish that I shared some of the optimistic opinions on this thread but I think;

- barcodes and spuds had off seasons last year
- only team above us that I can see going backwards are blackburn
- ashton, bellamy, parker, dyer and ljungberg have demonstrated over at least the last three seasons that they will miss around a third of the season through injury. The club clearly needs to look at whether it is contributing to it's large injury list but these players were out for long periods at their previous clubs too (can even see it on wikipedia under appearances section). Not sure about upson and faubert but having been somone that suffered from one bad injury (achilles) and seen that it impact the way that you run and lead to other injuries (back poblems caused by my achilles injury apparently) I can't believe that by some magic this lot are all going to play even 90% of next seasons games. Lack of investment (expect pretty much everyone to outspend us) and trimming of squads when subs bench is increasing to 7 equals a year of going backwards to me - 13th but potentially a lookng over our shoulder 13th not a looking upwards 13th.

I'm inclined to agree for pretty much the same reasons. I think there are plernty of teams which finished below us, who are going to be stronger next season and I don't share the optimism that a fit Bellamy/Ashton partnership will make everthing right, although I'd be pleasantly surprised if it does.

Just out of interest, would it possible to have a poll where you can vote for each individual place rather than broad clusters of positions? Maybe in the week before the start of the season once most of the transfers, managers vacancies etc have been sorted? Might be more indicative of fans' opinions.

It's difficult to envisage a PL table where we are not in 10th position. Sort of out of our comfort zone,

Think we were all predicting on the basis of Curbs in charge, all changed when Zola came in imo. With a totally inexperienced manager it's almost impossible to predict now..............would personally just be happy to get out of this season safe.

well i've put 15-17th although i think 15-20th is more likely, because i seriously doubt we have a bunch of players and manager good enough to win a relegation fight.

Too true. With the way things were going, I genuinly thought we could get a 7th - 8th finish with Curbs in charge. I'd be well happy with 15th this season, and just relieved to finish 17th if i'm honest.
