The lad is doing exactly what he did last season - getting better with (consecutive) games under his belt. And there is still room for improvement.

He is playing better because of the workrate, working his socks off.
Still has a lot to prove to me before I accept him as a premier league player

Re: Kovac - £4 million - Deal or No Deal [POLL]
Compared to Valon, Parker, Collison and Noble he is left lacking.
What he does have on them is height and the ability to use it defensively.
I'd probably keep playing him for the simple fact that Parker, and yesterday Behrami, have been man mountains in recent games and it probably has something to do with what he provides.

I think he does a decent job. He always breaks down play, its just his passing is not consistant. I myself would like to see him at centre back as i think he would do a good job there, and its his favoured position, correct me if im wrong.
But i like the guy, he works hard and i think he has played really well the last few weeks. The criticism he recieves is harsh in my opinion.

Having played in the Champions League and at the World Cup and European Championships, I bet he can't wait for that glowing endorsement from you :lol:Wade wrote:Still has a lot to prove to me before I accept him as a premier league player

Noble has been vastly disappointing this season and you can barely say he's played better.fjthegrey wrote:Compared to Valon, Parker, Collison and Noble he is left lacking. .
Over the last 5-6 games, Kovac has been the better player than Collison.
Re: Kovac - £4 million - Deal or No Deal [POLL]
He and Behrami were excellent for the first 75 mins yesterday. His passing lets him down, which, I grant you, isn't great for a midfielder. But he's a decent stopper: no more.
Re: Kovac - £4 million - Deal or No Deal [POLL]
I'm not really bothered what hes done in the past Rars.
The simple fact is before a couple of games ago he was playing very poor for West Ham.
If someone would of said he had played in the champions league a couple of matches ago, I would of thought they were on drugs.
I bet a few more thousands fans would of come to the same conclusion too.

Where for me his slowness would be even more exposed.THE GIBBINS wrote: I myself would like to see him at centre back as i think he would do a good job there, and its his favoured position, correct me if im wrong.
He has improved in recent games but he was coming from a low base, so nothing to get excited over really.

Granted, but it doesn't alter the fact that he is limited in comparison. I'm not sure if Collison and Noble have started a single game in their actual prefered positions this season, which i'm sure hasn't upped their level of performance. I'm getting quite bored of Jimenez now as i feel the role he takes up in our midfield, especially yesterday, is one which is perfectly suited to Collison's ability.rare as rockinghorse shat wrote:

Re: Kovac - £4 million - Deal or No Deal [POLL]
It's difficult to say because of the way we've been set up and, you're right, that there have been many times when we've not had players in best positions.
To me, it's more about what each players does as their job and how well they do it.
Kovac, whilst not being too creative and has limited passing ability (no worse than Parker, mind!) has a very thankless task of protection and playing as a foil. He does this well and Parker's game has benefited from it - ergo the team too.
Noble, on the other hand, has shown little in any area to really warrant anyone finding what it is that he does.
There's of course that debate about his best position, so it is hard to judge.
I have been critical of Collison's form of late. I know he's had a terrible time of it this year and I know it must have been hard over the last few weeks, that's why I wouldn't hold proper judgement against him. Although, I aired these concerns months ago and last year too and it's just borne out of concern that he develops the way we hope and eradicates much of the weaknesses from his game.
Many were saying the same thing about Noble maybe not developing his game sufficiently - then those people were getting slated for being really critical of a young lad. But he has somewhat stagnated over the last 12 months.

Disagree, I like Kovac but I think in your posts recently you have been hard on Collison.
Ignoring his personal issues I saw him as our most threatening midfielder in recent games and his two chances against Pompy show that.
(I know he missed them but he is still young and learning)
I agree with Noble.
Oh and Kovac played well yesterday, his job is to get the ball and give it to someone else and he does it better and better every game.

Yesterdays, back to the wall type of game is one to which he is best suited..in a more open game his passing deficiencies will be highlighted. He does seem to improve every game but most of our games are usually a rearguard action..
