I hated this fella to such a degree I would never place a sticker of him in my yearly sticker book. Sh*ff Utd always had a sticker short, that sticker was always Tony Currie..........

Some were arguing at the time that Currie was better than our hero, I was having none of it and continued with my childish protest. I never completed a sticker book, but had many Tony Curries to swap.

was it that sheff utd goal that wrong footed mervyn day in a 3-2 defeat ....that MOTD showed for years to come

We must not forget that Trev himself credited Billy for doing all his hard work for him, leaving Trev free to be the skilful one.

Trev/Dev
Hoddle
Brady (K)
Brady (L)

No claret tinted specs at all, honest!

I was hesitating as I pressed 'Submit', without much conviction it must must be said.

Honest. Not for the goal, but for the comparison.

Brooking and Brady were a different class to Hoddle. The most overrated footballer of his generation by a mile. To be honest he was much more effective as a player when came back as a sweeper because he played for a team.

Brooking was unbelieavbly goood and we were blessed to have him, the difference when he played and was imnjured was imense. Brrady was a sublime player II'd probably have to go for him if I was being honest. rare combination of beauftiful skill and a fantastic attitude

Great question and a great thread. I wasn't out of nappies during a lot of their careers so it's interesting to read while half cut.

Please continue.

(what about a poll?)

Lucky enough to see all 3 and even luckier to see 2 of them in claret and blue.

I dont think there is a winner to be honest, they were all very gifted honest players, gentlemen of the game.

But if I had to choose it would be Sir Trev, never seemed to fade from a game and the partnership he had with Dev was sublime.

Old question, boring thread. "Shoot" magazine did it in 1982 and had it Brady-Brooking-Hoddle. Now can we talk about some issues a little more relevant?

1.Brooking
2.Hoddle
3.Brady

I was lucky to see all 3 play and Sir Trev gets the nod because of his consistency week in week out. Both Hoddle and Brady were also capable of magic but both could be guilty of disappearing for long periods on the pitch. The ECWC Semi vs Eintracht Frankfurt is in my all time Top 5 games I've had the privelage of attending, so for that and many many others, I thank you Sir Trevor Brooking.

Great thread, and damn difficult to pick between them. All three were in there prime when I was a teenager. Brooking was my first proper West Ham hero, and he had such a way of making everything effortless, (apart from running, when his tongue was always out of his mouth).

I hated Brady at Arsenal, but in a pure jealous way. He just seemed to slaughter defences. I was so pleased we got to have him at the end of his career.

Hoddle was just simply the most naturally gifted player of his era. He also had a great footballing brain, and seemed to be thinking of what ball to play ages before the opposition even realised.

As much as I hate for a Spud to win anything, for me it has to be Hoddle, Brooking, Brady
