Re: The United Colours of West Ham
Maybe I'm going mental but didn't we have a Japanese player at the club around 2000 time? Did he never play for the first team? Or did he never exist?
Re: The United Colours of West Ham
I've just had a look on wiki to double check, doesn't appear to existJames P wrote:Maybe I'm going mental but didn't we have a Japanese player at the club around 2000 time? Did he never play for the first team? Or did he never exist?
The closest I could find to a Japanese player, was a fella we had on trial. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... riker.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Can't believe Chris Coyne was missed. Superb spot there.
We had a couple of Koreans in the early 2000s, possibly just on trial. Not sure if they both signed, but we kept San Lee for a while. He never played in a match for us though.

Re: The United Colours of West Ham
Don't remember that but years earlier (I'd guess the late '80s but wouldn't be surprised to be 5 years out either way) went to WHL to see us get stuffed in a friendly. I'm sure we had a Japanese trialist playing for us that night. It must have been a bit of a rush job as he didn't even have a number on his shirt. He played, as a sub I think.James P wrote:Maybe I'm going mental but didn't we have a Japanese player at the club around 2000 time? Did he never play for the first team? Or did he never exist?

We had San Lee from South Korea. Not quite Japan. Only one I can think of.James P wrote:Maybe I'm going mental but didn't we have a Japanese player at the club around 2000 time? Did he never play for the first team? Or did he never exist?

On page 2 (?), it was mentioned Greece is not represented.
Stan Lazaridis and Dylan Tombides
They both were eligible to play for Greece. I believe Lazaridis father was born in Greece and played in the Greek league. The 'dis, 'des' usually signifies that the family comes from Northern Greece-Makedonia or Thraki.

He lived on my road and drive a pea green mk2 Granada. It was in the days that the local dealerships - Laidlaw - sponser players cars.Sweeney Bod wrote:Van Der Elst's signing seemed, (to a 13 year old Sweeney), almost exotic. I was sure we were going to see some continental flair lighting up the Boleyn. Sadly, whilst he done fairly OK, my mind had over hyped him. Back then, a foreign player was someone from Ireland, and we did not even have an Irishman..

If you believe the rumours, Pardew's Jap's eye made a few appearances at the club between 2003-06.James P wrote:Maybe I'm going mental but didn't we have a Japanese player at the club around 2000 time? Did he never play for the first team? Or did he never exist?

I believe that with Sofiane Feghouli and Gokhan Tore we can now add two additional countries to the list?
