Any news on Piquionne?

Postby MilkyBarKid16 on Thu Jul 05, 2012 11:26 pm

Like many Hammers fans I can't wait to see Freddie Piq leave the club, but i haven't heard any news about him leaving, is there any?

Or is he a player we will never be able to shift?

Allegedly on £45k pw. No way anyone will offer anything near that - best we can hope for is for someone to take him and we'll have to pay him something ourselves.

Only a year left on his deal but I doubt anyone will take him off us. Who's Avram managing these days? I'm sure he'd like to team up with his boyfriend again

How about this scenario: None of the strikers on Big Sam's wishlist can be signed and Piquionnen ends up as our backup for Cole next season ? We have to pay him anyway, so why not use the guy ?
He may even be interested in playing football again now that West Ham are back on the big stage...

Interested possibly, the ability to the find the goal, probably not!

In terms of ability, I'd tend to agree.

I just hesitate over his desire for the game now.

The point is though is that we are broadly 6 weeks from our first match and, as much as further transfer dealings are expected - only a few deals have been worked at other clubs too - Piq is still on the play-roll, doubtlessly pencilled into SA's plans as back up for Cole.

The slightly worrying thing is that last season, it was Cole himself who started it as the impact player, presumably at least in part because of his fabled 'dodgy knees'.

So, for Piq to still feature - even as back up - in the club's plans means we've either got to get busy concerning striking options, or we're concentrating on being a lot tighter in defence (than even we were last season). I just can't see Maynard or Baldock being top scorer or other teams being too charitable with the space the afford Cap'n Kev.

We shall see.

Is he even training with the squad? I think they have effectively written off the money. Seems wasteful. Unless he's disruptive why not get him in for training? He was not a bad player technically and you never know if you might need him at some point.

Piquionne is an extremely frustrating individual. He has a load of talent but barely seems interested in playing. If you could get him motivated he would still be able to offer something.

For the big wage that he is on, if they can;t shift him, perhaps the club should try and get something out of him. 20 minute cameos when we are chasing a game perhaps.

He'd only end up dropping deep so the opposition could push up and equalise/win

Astonished he's still at the club and didn't leave back in last transfer window. Question why he's simply not been paid up and shown the door. He must be ranked at least tenth of our twenty-three strikers anyway. If he gets playing time ahead of Baldock or Maynard then its shameful. Sadly, can see Baldock being sold before the season starts and this useless lump remaining with us.

To pay him off would cost the same as keeping him. At least, by keeping him, you can pay him off over a year rather than all in one go. (Obvious exception being if he's disruptive to the team, which doesn't seem to be the case).
