Very happy to have him back. Liked James Collins when he was last here and didn't want him to leave. Obviously he hasn't had a great couple of seasons but maybe a return will see him be reinvigorated and return to top form.

Anyone have that photo of him in the away end at Stoke from a few seasons back? Taken by fans and he's wearing a Ralph Lauren rugby shirt.

At the time he was sold, I said we got rid of the wrong defender, and said we should have got rid of Upson instead. I got slaughtered.

Glad to see him back, and hopefully he has improved as a player since he left us.

A bit uninspiring this one.

Not sure he will be good enough to be honest.

When we signed carew I posted on here about my villa mate who was so happy he had left them cos he had proper lost it...got slated on here for it. Same mate is over the moon they have finally got rid of collins who was 'a liability'.

Cant believe we gave him a 4 year contract tbh...

Well none of us were really that excited about the prospect of Carew, so there's no surprise there. Added to the fact Villa were **** on the whole last season, which players would he be actually sad to see go?

A fair point ill martello but you kind of proved my point as well.we're getting excited about buying a defender from a team that only just survived last season? Collins should be backup imo.

Welcome back Ginge!

Good signing. Was sorry he left, glad he's back. Aside from Tomkins one of the best defenders we've had recent times, which in itself is a bit sad!

But we've only just come up. Their aspirations were bigger than ours of staying up this season. Besides, as I say they were **** on the whole, and I'm sure some stats were shown the other day in which he actually showed some better stats than John Terry. It wasn't long ago during our mediocre seasons that people were slagging off Tomkins and Noble. Now any bid towards them would be treated with hostility.

I feel he's a good signing, and adds something to our team.

Villa didn't concede many last year, there problem was at the other end.

They conceded two more than Newcastle.

Good signing. Just a case of who partners him at CB in my opinion. Don't think Tomkins' is a dead cert, especially if (and we probably will do) sign another CB. Can't rule out Reid either, came on leaps and bounds last year. The squad is taking shape nicely
