The KUMB.com Q&A: Sam Allardyce

Postby Up the Junction on Fri Aug 10, 2012 9:44 am

Sometime next week I'll be sitting down for a chat with West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce for the latest in our series of KUMB Q&A sessions.

If anyone has a (sensible) question they'd like me to put to Sam, please add below.

Thank you.

I read something years ago, and don’t know if it’s true but supposedly Sam said before that the hardest thing he’s had to do in his managerial career so far was go around door to door in certain parts of Limerick City trying to fund raise for the club. I’d love to know if that’s actually true or just an urban myth.

You obviously don’t have to ask this as it has nothing to do with WH but it was always something that stuck with me through the years about Sam, especially as I went to school there and know how rough the area is.

If he had an unlimited transfer pot of money what player would he most like to sign?

Does he get upset being called a northerner, when he's from Dudley?

Did the David Gold one ever get done?

For Sam:-
Did you want to keep Robert Green, and if so was an offer made?
What are your opinions of the owners son posting transfer information on Twitter before deals are concluded?
Why did you want to spend 90k a week on Andy Carroll ratther than source 2 defenders for the same wage?
Why has the investement in the defence been so low compared to the strike force?

With some of his comments on the fans being deluded,The West Ham way etc etc. With leading the team out at Wembley in May.
How does he feel about the supporters now.,The backing, the team got at Wembley, and the thousands of fans that were unable to get tickets.
Does he realise the enormous following this club has.
Does he believe with the announcement of the Olympic Site tennants due in Sept, hopefully further funds for new players. How far does he believe he can take the club.

How does he plan to best utilise our youth academy?

Last season he set numerous targets for the team (automatic promotion, 2 points per game, 8 clean sheets in a row etc) What targets will he be setting for this season?

Does he feel pre season form has any bearing on the teams preparation for the season?

Which player/s has impressed him the most during pre season?

Whats the biggest difference between West Ham and the other clubs he has managed?

Does he see his role as manager of West Ham as a long term position?

Given the speculation of future investment into the club and the potential of new owners if the clubs bid for the OS was successful ,is he concerned about a repeat of the situation he experienced at Newcastle and Blackburn?

What is the biggest challenge managers face in modern day football?

How important is it for teams to be able to play more than one way/system and have flexibility in their tactical approach?

Has his prior perception ( ) of West Ham as a club altered during his time as manager?

What does he feel are the most pressing concerns for West Ham fans?

How is his current relationship with the owners and what his opinion on the two daves as owners of West Ham?

What are his prediction for this season?

A few to start with...

Q1. What are his plans for the imediate future of WHU (This season)?

Q2. Does he plan to stay on after his contract term, if so, what are his plans for the club then?

Last season when we looked like we could push on and win the league, why did he continue to go defensive and ultimately end up putting us in the play off places? is this something that we will see again this year even at 0-0 draws at home?

May not be the ultimate question for some of you lot now that we have reached the holy land of the premiership, but ****ing pissed me off last season, especially away from home.

How did he manage to sell us Benni McCarthy when he was in charge of Blackburn and was he surprised that he managed to get a fee from us?

How is our academy viewed from an outsiders point of view (i.e before he joined) and what are his impressions of it first hand?
What are his criteria for stepping up youngsters compared to, say an appraisal from Tony Carr?

Excellent question Rars.

£10 to the BMF says that ,if asked, he'll talk about missed opportunities at other clubs and/or not being considered for England job.

What are the real reasons behind Ravel Morrison's loan move to Birmingham and is it true he attacked Ian Hendon?
Does he rate Jordan Spence?
Why has he not signed any full backs, other than one who was already here, when both sides of the defence are clearly a problem in the squad?

Did you tell Ricardo Vaz Te to get a haircut now he'll play in Premier League?

At your first training session at Chadwell Heath, what were your exact words when you realised Faubert can't stop a ball, let alone put in a decent cross?

If we win a trophy this season, will you shave your head?

Were you happy when you saw we are giving a lot more suggestions for new signings in "2012 Summer Transfers & Rumours" thread than in January one?

How many Orbits could you buy with your promotion bonus? 1 gum is £0.06 (package of 10 being £0.6). Also, next time offer Morrison only sugar free gums, we don't want his other 7 teeth to rot as well.

Will the fact that Tomkins was only a bench warmer during Olympics affect your decision who to put on field vs. Villa?

Have you ever been at Gold's mansion?
