Re: Andy Carroll
So far no one has succeeded in stopping the Man City juggernaut. Maybe that’s because all the teams have been predicted well in advance by pep. Perhaps starting Carroll as a rush goalie could catch em unawares.

No chance, against the best sides who keep the ball Carroll offers next to nothing. If Carroll played, I’d be surprised if we managed a shot on target. Against City we need a willing runner to run the channels and chase long balls to get cities defence turning.

he could deliver a ball alright......steveyrockstar wrote:Matt Jarvis? Thought he left years ago.

I think he started that "thumbs up" trend too whenever a ball was delivered into the South Bank from a team mate, he would turn his back on them and give a thumbs up..always thought he was taking the piss...

Re: Andy Carroll
I'd be tempted to play Carroll for the simple reason that we aren't gonna get anywhere near the ball. Why set up to play quick passing football when we're hardly going to get the chance to do so. This game calls for ugly tactics using the old Allardyce method of punt it up to the big man and hope he can hold the ball up and bring others into the game in the final third.
Re: Andy Carroll
I think the most important thing for us to do is to keep the ball, aimlessly if necessary to try and frustrate them into becoming careless. They totally expect to stroll this. We can't beat them on our own we need their help. This also requires us to be clinical when the rare chance comes. NOT something we're noted for.

Re: Andy Carroll
thing is really though that Pep, for the past 2 seasons has moved on players who don't buy into his "focused" mentality and either got players in who will stay focused or gotten more out of those who used to have those "lapses."
haven't seen many banana skins from them these days, it does happen of course and we all have to hope that Saturday is one of them days.
they were flying a couple of years back and we stuffed them 3-1 so it does happen...
and as for Carroll......he hasn't kicked a ball in anger for 5 months except in a behind the doors friendly against Brentford wasn't it ? how anyone expects him to play against the SuperStars I have no idea...
if it were Amercian Football with situational substitutions, great, bring him on for every free kick and corner (although without Snodders I am not sure we'll clear the first man) and then take him off..

Re: Andy Carroll
I remember not long into his West Ham "career" he cut back and whipped in a lovely in-swinging pacey cross to the back post dying for someone to nod in.Cuenca 'ammer wrote:he could deliver a ball alright......

Our Geordie CF had a moan at him and pointed at the sky and then clapped the next one which was one of those totally ineffectual floaty chips.
Probably because the first one may involve running.....

Re: Andy Carroll
Has anyone opened a book yet on when he'll get his next injury and what it will be?
I reckon it will be Saturday Morning about 9:30 am and he'll break a shoe lace, resulting of six weeks out.
I like him as a player, but his sickness record is beyond belief. If it was the tea lady or office bod having this much sickness they would have been outed.

Re: Andy Carroll
He will be back for Cardiff. His pride was badly hurt after he turned up in red, at Sid James', and was roundly derided for his performance.
Time for a quick breather in the home stand and then, you know, 5 - 10 minutes against The Bluebirds.
That'll be the first goal he scores, out of, say, 3 or 4, this season.
New injury before Xmas: nailed on!

Re: Andy Carroll
Personally not bothered if he plays for us again, or not
I certainly hope he doesn't start for us again

I seem to remember that Carroll was pissed off at any one of our players who didn't drop one of the floaty ones in from the half way..........
easiest defended ball in the game............ManU stationed Fellaini in front of him and a CB right behind him...
hardly ever won a header iirc..........

Carroll off the bench? You couldn't get him off a Stanna stair lift!S-H wrote:No chance I'd start him, off the bench once the 4th or 5th go in though.

Re: Andy Carroll
A lot of fans are fed up with Carroll now, it's been one injury after another combined with a lack of professionalism.
But wouldn't it be great if he came back with a point to prove, stayed fit and offered us a plan B? He could still be a very important player for us especially as Chicharito has done nothing and we are very light of other options. I still think he has a lot more to offer.
