Think Ashton could've been great for us but statistics can be viewed in different ways.
Ashton scored 15 goals in 46 prem games for us - 0.33 goals a game
Carroll scored 33 goals in 114 prem games for us - 0.29 goals a game
Not a massive difference in goals to games and a lot of carrolls games came from the bench, can't remember if Ashton started most of his games or not.
Also found assist stats stating that Carroll has assisted 24 in his games and Ashton assisted none, sure that can't be right though.

Pretty sure Ashton set up Sears for his goal against Blackburn?
I know he headed in his own rebound but even so....

Is he actually still alive? I'd given up on him a long time ago.

Can't wait to see the back of him. Anyone hazard a guess how much we have wasted in transfer fee and wages on him over the years? Must be a ridiculous number for someone that has been injured for the large portion of his time here.

IF he is offered any sort of extension on his contract, it should be on a pay-as-you-play basis. Maybe that would buck his ideas up.If he refuses it, would we miss him?

B n T
My post was a little ambiguous...Ashton back heeled? to Sears whose shot was parried and Sears followed up and headed in (I think)

I don’t see how they are compareable, Ashton suffered a career ending injury that was very unfortunate. Carroll goes from one injury to another whilst seeming to care more about his next holiday than actually getting back fit.

Dean Ashton retiring is quite a sad story, Carroll’s injury record is at least partly due to his own lack of professionalism.

There are similarities in that both are vastly overrated by some on here, but for me Ashton was a far better footballer than Carroll, in terms of creativity and class.

Overall, I get the impression that Ashton really cared and and Carroll really doesn't.

One minute people are complaining about the state of our world class training facilities the next bemoaning an injury plagued player in an injury plagued team.

I've tried giving him the benefit of the doubt but no going to bother any more. He's just a sponging waster and the sooner he gets his last thoroughly undeserved pay check from West Ham the better.

Fed up with these long term "injuries" that never seem to happen in the public arena

I hope he stays in the sickroom until his contract expires. Every time he runs out onto the pitch i get a very real, gut wrenching feeling he is going to smash some poor kids face in with his elbows.
