Re: Mark Noble - West Ham Legend
Odd one, this - the club stated in 2015 that his contract would run until 2021 anyway, having signed a five-and-a-half year deal. No mention of clauses or an extra year here:

Re: Mark Noble - West Ham Legend
Because if you don't understand what Noble does, you don't understand football, good positioning, leadership, can sort of tackle and defend but more importantly he is a pivot, he can receive the ball, play it long or short, keep it moving, always an option, he can dictate a game without advertly dictating it, not saying he is Pirlo but the qualities he brings are what you need in a player like him anyway.sutts07 wrote:Long may he reign...!
Proving the doubters wrong season after season.
Re: Mark Noble - West Ham Legend
Great news. Still an important player for us. Would love to see him make the 500 appearance mark.
Re: Mark Noble - West Ham Legend
What an odd thing to do at this point. The Mail article said he was contracted until 2020 anyway with the option of a 1 year extension to 2021. Given his age, why wouldn't you wait until 2020 to give him the extra year? Im not complaining. Im glad he'll finish his career with us... Just seems like a really bizarre thing to do considering he still has 2 years on his current contract.
Re: Mark Noble - West Ham Legend
Strange how we can give Noble another year when it's not really needed bearing in mind the length of his existing contract, yet the Declan Rice contract situation is still to be resolved

Re: Mark Noble - West Ham Legend
It is an odd decision, given that he's making more sub appearances under Pellegrini than ever before.
As always with this lot (Board), there'll probably be more to this than meets the eye.

As always with this kind of announcement, I always think its to do with the addition/removal of clauses in the contract, rather then something significant like a massive pay rise.

Re: Mark Noble - West Ham Legend
Not really strange, Noble was happy with what the club offered and agreed terms. Rice (or his agent) isn't happy with his offer and thinks he can get a better deal out of the club if he waits until the summer.kevino wrote:Strange how we can give Noble another year when it's not really needed bearing in mind the length of his existing contract, yet the Declan Rice contract situation is still to be resolved
That really is all there is to it.

Re: Mark Noble - West Ham Legend
I may have misunderstood your point, but he hasn't made any of his appearances as a sub this season.Up the Junction wrote:It is an odd decision, given that he's making more sub appearances under Pellegrini than ever before.
He has started eleven of our sixteen league games, was suspended for three and injured / out of the squad for one (if not two). The only game he has sat on the bench for is Wolves (un-used sub) when there was still a huge question over his fitness having been injured.

Has he got any of his coaching badges? Maybe the extra year works out so he can start playing fewer games but transition into a coach over the same period?

We play better with him and as we can't sign Modric I'm glad we have him for longer. He never had legs to lose, he's an intelligent footballer who, like any, plays better with competent players around him in a system that works.

The Evening Standard think so...floydie_hammer wrote:Has he got any of his coaching badges? Maybe the extra year works out so he can start playing fewer games but transition into a coach over the same period?
Although there is no direct quote from Noble saying he has any interest in coaching. He strikes me as a 'walk away quietly and enjoy family life' type of guy to be honest. He should be set for life.Club captain Noble is four games short of 450 competitive appearances for West Ham and wants to stay on at the East London club in a coaching capacity when he eventually retires.
That said, after two decades of being in and around the dressing room on a match day, he will certainly miss it.

Re: Mark Noble - West Ham Legend
he is declining now so we extend his contract when not needed.
how about we pay rice what he is worth now as a player who is getting better match by match.
noble has a role for sure but from the bench next season. need a young midfielder in. RLC would be ideal !

Re: Mark Noble - West Ham Legend
Obviously an 'angle' to it that most of us aren't privy to.
Impossible to believe anyone decided they needed to lock him down for another year in case his head gets turned in 2020.

Noble remains as a puppet for the board, he gets a longer deal. Everybody is a winner.

Or.. "We are going to be buying a new midfielder in January, he may be your replacement, here's an extension on your current deal as thank you for your loyal service to the club"
