No doubt about it, Wally Downes did a brilliant job in snuffing out Nobles deep play making threat by targeting him and it was a concern before the game when he said that would be the game plan. He wasnt keeping it a secret and we failed to do our homework.

Personally, I thought he was our second best player on the pitch on Saturday after Snodgrass. Which isn't saying much as the collective was bad. But still, seems to be getting a coating here that's disproportional to his actual performance level, for me.

I've never subscribed to the 'Mark Noble - West Ham legend' statement.
West Ham legends are people like Vic Watson, Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters, Billy Bonds, Trevor Brooking, and maybe Alan Taylor (for those goals on the way to '75 cup win).
Mark Noble has been a good, steady, club servant, and for that he deserves praise. But legend ? No, I think not.

Welcome to the "nine players were awful, it must be Mark Nobles fault" thread.

Is he a legend compared to those guys of yesteryear? No. Is he a legend in the context of today's footballer? Yes.
You're comparing apples and oranges mate.

I've heard Billy Bonds asked a couple of times which players since his era he liked the most and he said Noble. Said he was a 'proper player'.

If I was Bonzo I'd try and tell people it was Enner Valencia and see if I could get people to swallow it.

Agree. I'm not Noble's biggest fan, but I don't think he was as bad as many are suggesting.

:)

Gale did laugh and say he picked Noble cos he was the only player we've ever had who was slower.

On that point, nearly all our best players have been slow ones. Probably sums us up.

How hard is it for any player to mark Mark Noble?

What does Billy Bonds mean by 'Propa Player' Does he refer to Moore, Brooking, Devonshire, Di Canio as 'Propa'? I think not, more like 'Legend' or 'World Class' I would of thought. If you ever saw Billy play you'd know what a true leader is & NEVER compare Noble EVER. Ray Stewart, Alvin Martin, Julian Dicks, George Paris RIP to name a few are leagues ahead of the likes of Noble in blood n guts.

The best Mark Noble was as (Peter Taylors) under 21's sin. He still looks like a boy amongst men, but he's 31 especially on big pitches like ours with space. Noble lovers, let it go, he's rubbish for yonks we need to move on.

To Call him a Legend is a shame imo, it disqualifies West Ham as a 'Propa' Team

Someone mentioned a Minority of fans don't rate Noble as a player, i beg to differ! :asleep:

Guess you'd need to ask Bonzo '66.

He was asked which player since his time so don't suppose Moore, Devo, Stewart, Alvin or STB qualified.

Same for George Parris.

You missed out Pike. He was a similar player in my mind.

As for Julian and DiCanio I reckon you might be surprised by Billy's thoughts.

I saw him play hundreds of times, have never compared them as players and have fallen again for answering your drivel.

Wenger hasn’t stopped anyone for about 10 years. Noble needs a baby sitter, as he is so poor defensively, a luxury we can ill afford.

Luckily the people who don't rate Noble, aren't the people who pick the team.

How many mangers is it now?

Pardew
Curbishley
Zola
Grant
Big Sam
Bilic
Moyes
Pellers

They all seem to rate him, and I would say they all have a better knowledge of the game than all of us mere mortals.

If he wasn't any good, he still wouldn't be getting picked week in and week out.

That's actually a really interesting observation, Doc. Because you're not wrong.

Moore, Bonds, Carrick, Cole (Joe OR Carlton, doesn't matter), Parker, Noble, Payet...you'd have to mark the spot to see if any of them were moving.
