And that is why we employ sports scientists etc. I don't think Oxford has been managed correctly, up until now, that's how it looks to me. I really hope this season goes well for him.

Lukaku played for Anderlechts first team at 15 whilst still going to school. I remember watching them once and thought "this strikers a bit good, why is still playing for Anderlecht?". I looked him up thinking he would be 25/26 years old. He was 16!

So the question may be is he actually the age he says he is...

Shockingly enough, it is. There are dozens of pictures floating around the internet of Lukaku in his early teens and he's not just dwarfing the other players, he's dwarfing the refs and the coaches.

He's been a unit since he hit puberty.... which by my estimation had to have been about age 9.

.
Reminds me of a kid who used to play in my son's team who was 4" taller and at least a stone heavier than all the other kids. Not a great footballer but was so much stronger nobody could stop him. He was also shaving at 12! We found out a few years later that he was 3 years older than his stated age. Apparently many parents when they immigrate from Africa, falsify their children's age to prolong their child benefits. Either way with Lukaku he has turned out to be a good footballer, the lad we knew turned out to be crap and is actually less than average height at the age of 20.

Born in Antwerp. Not sure the Belgian system has much of a background in falsifying documents.

Why's that? Pretty common among Africans to have uncertainties around age, but Lukaku is a Belgian and has been in Academy Football in that country since he was a 5 year old.

Wow those Lukaku pictures are crazy.Youd have thought he would have ended up 6'8'.funny watched last 2 England U19 games and Marcus Edwards has come on and won both games and he is absolutely tiny must be 5'5' if that.Must be so much talent lost because of height. If you're a midfielder or No 10 it makes no sense as it's called football not head ball.

That pretty much sums up what's wrong with the system.

Regarding Lukaku, I would say that being so physically developed at such a young age is usually detrimental to an athlete's career. They learn to rely on their size and strength from a young age and struggle when everyone else has caught them up.

This weekend could be an interesting period for him at Gladbach. Two games against two other Bundesliga clubs for them in the Telekom Cup - they open against Werder Bremen, then will either play Hoffenheim or Bayern Munich (depending on who wins/loses each game).

Hopefully we'll see him tested against one of those teams, at least, and all three finished above Gladbach last season in the league. One of their other CBs has a muscle strain picked up against Eupen, as well.

They would be better off playing with older kids.
