Re: West Ham United v Manchester City: Match Thread
Fair enough, but at the end of the first half he's just said we're "bossing the game". I've been waiting for him to say something, but all in all I'd say he's been quite complimentary of us so far.warp wrote:^ wait for our second goal.
But I will brace myself for the second half.

He wakes up when Silva scores and shows his big club bias, believe me. Geezer went down in my estimation a great deal at the weekend.Korea Hammer wrote:

Re: Stats Mean Nothing
Essentially all your doing there is trading one set of numbers for another and suggesting that we sign players on psychological test numbers as opposed to footballing ones.Jedi Al Khalaas wrote: So ..... managers should stop looking at stats first and look for the intangible things like , goal scoring instinct , passion , desire, determination and a winning mentality.
They're not actually as intangible as you think and can actually be quantified by measuring personality traits with the exception of goal scoring instinct which I except can be assessed by looking at shots per game, shooting areas and conversion rates etc.
Practically everything in the universe can be expressed as an equation if you have the genius to do the math.

Re: Stats Mean Nothing
I've always looked at the abbreviation "stats" as nothing more than a palindrome. Just something else we've nicked from the U.S of A. I can honestly say I've never consoled myself with "stats" after being all over the opposition like a rash, only for them to nick the game 1-0. Maybe I'm a bit old school, but I'm more of a "How the f**k did they get away with that"! kind of bloke (Spuds game springs to mind).

West Ham had two shots inside Man City's six yard area, Man City had one inside West Ham's. Almost half of Man City's shots were from outside the penalty area.

Re: Stats Mean Nothing
Sakho had a pass completion rate of 13% against City apparently. Just one of the things I noticed when looking at individual stats after the game.
Re: Stats Mean Nothing
Never been a stat man myself. Who cares how many passes you've done. How many corners or shots on goal. Irrelevant old tosh I think. Stats show up all the time during games. Do I pay attention?? Do I f***. Only thing I pay attention to is if the boys turn up on the day and give it their all. That's the only stat I care about whether we Win Lose or Draw, The rest I'm not or ever will be interested in.
Re: West Ham United v Manchester City: Match Thread
It's funny how people care so much what commentators, pundits etc say about our games or how many minutes we get on match of the day. I personally couldn't give a monkeys. I know what I see with my own eyes every week and I trust that. What these eyes saw on Saturday was a team that matched city all over the pitch and basically as someone else on here said 'went toe-to-toe' with them. It was bloody fantastic and I am still buzzing three days on. Of course city were a bit unlucky not to score more, but then so were we. I still think on the balance of play we just about deserved the win. So Michael Owen can say what he wants. I know what I saw.

City were all over us for large portions of the game, and hit the woodwork twice.
We had luck on our side.
Now, not saying that our team didn't do the right thing against much stronger opposition - we came out of the blocks sharpish and we had some great moments . . . but I'm not sure that stats mean nothing.
We nicked a win, mainly because our boys took their chances, which is ultimately where it counts.

The stats would indicate that we have been **** for the last 10 years.
But we know we have been **** a lot longer than that
